Coco Gauff eases past Ajla Tomljanovic to enter second round at 2024 Paris Olympics
Apart from Snoop Dogg wearing a t-shirt with her picture on it, Coco Gauff also had other reasons to celebrate. The 20-year-old eased past Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 6-0 to reach the second round at the Paris Olympics.
The American ace never looked in any sort of trouble as she broke Tomljanovic on her first serve. She won three games on the trot before the Australian finally got the rub of the green on her own serve and recovered the break to get the match back on even terms.
However, Gauff did not allow her opponent to enjoy the advantage for long as she regained the lead and eventually claimed the opening set. The second set was even better from Gauff’s perspective as she did not let Tomljanovic even win one game. The 2023 US Open champion will face Maria Lourdes Carle next.
Gauff also came through the opening round in the doubles alongside Jessica Pegula. They beat defeated Australia’s Ellen Perez and Daria Saville 6-3, 6-1.
