In Short
  • Coco Gauff regrets returning to X and is considering deleting the app again after a brief return.
  • She deleted the app initially to avoid spoilers while binge-watching Love Island.
  • Gauff is preparing for the Stuttgart Open, aiming for her third title on clay after a successful previous season.

Coco Gauff had deleted X from her phone last year, and it was not because of the various reasons many people end up deleting social media apps. She was addicted to the popular reality show Love Island.

She was so addicted to it that she watched it right after waking up. And to avoid getting spoilers on X, she deemed it best to take a break. Gauff deleted the app once again. And this time, it was after her Australian Open heartbreak. Elina Svitolina dismantled her in the quarterfinals, and this saw Gauff losing her cool and breaking her racket, though not in front of the fans.

She tweeted on January 28th and did not post anything on it until April 6. Gauff remained active on other social media platforms while on her X break, however.

She revealed that the reason behind her inactivity X was that she had deleted the app from her phone. She now regrets returning to the Elon Musk-owned app and is contemplating taking a break again.

Deleted twitter for a month, came back today, and got instantly reminded why I should not be on here lol :/

Check out her tweet here:

Gauff is gearing up for the clay swing and is set to start her campaign at the Stuttgart Open, where she exited after losing to Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinals. The Stuttgart Open, a WTA 500 tournament, is set to start on April 13, and Gauff will be bidding to win her third title on the surface.

Last year, she clinched the French Open with a revenge win over World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, who denied her the Madrid Open title. Gauff also played the Italian Open final, only to lose to home favorite Paolini.

Steve Johnson calls Coco Gauff the best competitor on the tour

Steve Johnson considers Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina a cut above the rest at present. But he also thinks the best competitor on the WTA Tour is none other than Coco Gauff, calling her the third-best player in the world after the Belarusian and the Kazakh aces.

I think Coco Gauff is the best competitor on the women’s circuit, and that is very important. If she gives her best, regardless of her level of tennis that day, I believe she is the third-best player in the world. Additionally, the clay court season is approaching, and she has had incredible success on that surface.

Steve Johnson said on the Nothing Major Show

Gauff played her first final of the season at the Miami Open but lost to Sabalenka, which helped the four-time Grand Slam singles champion improve her head-to-head record to 7-6. It was also her first final since last year’s Wuhan Open.

Sabalenka and Rybakina will also be playing in the Stuttgart Open next. The former player, also the winner of three clay-court titles, has so far played four finals in the German city, losing all. She finished as the runner-up last year, losing the title to Jelena Ostapenko.

She will be chasing her fourth title of the season after wins in Brisbane, Indian Wells, and the Miami Open. She also made the final of the Australian Open, but couldn’t go past Rybakina, and took her revenge in the final in the California desert. Rybakina has so far won four titles on clay and is also a former champion in Stuttgart. Back in 2024, she defeated Marta Kostyuk in the final.

Iga Swiatek, even though she is once again struggling to find her form, will be considered a threat on her favorite surface once again, as she recently parted ways with Wim Fissette and added Rafael Nadal’s former coach, Francisco Roig. Danielle Collins has warned everyone to be wary of the six-time Grand Slam champion.
