In her maiden Olympic Games, Coco Gauff has scripted history after just one match. With the win against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in her first-round match in the women’s singles, she became the youngest American woman to win a singles match at the Games since Venus Williams in 2000.
Gauff has been making history ever since she set foot in Paris. She was chosen as her country’s flag-beared alongside LeBron James, making the 20-year-old the youngest American Olympic flag-bearer.
Gauff’s mother celebrated her daughter’s daughter’s latest achievement on social media. She put up a story on Instagram and applauded her for equaling one of her idol’s records.
