Coco Gauff is focused on staying grounded ahead of her French Open final against Aryna Sabalenka. She plans to learn from her previous experience in Paris and approach the match with calm confidence.

The 21-year-old American reached her third Grand Slam singles final with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over French underdog Lois Boisson. The victory ended Boisson’s surprising run and quieted hopes of a home champion. Gauff said in her Roland Garros presser:

In my first final here, I was very nervous and I gave up before the match even began. Now I have much more confidence from having played a Grand Slam final before and having done well. On Saturday, I will give my best and try to be as calm and relaxed as possible. Whatever is meant to happen will happen, knowing that I will give my all.

Gauff previously lost the 2022 Roland Garros final to Iga Swiatek but rebounded by defeating Sabalenka to win the 2023 US Open. She believes that she is now more confident and composed compared to her teenage self.

Against Boisson, Gauff controlled the match from the start. Her powerful game and poise left little room for a comeback, dashing France’s hopes of a first women’s champion at the tournament since 2000.

The match ended quickly, with Gauff winning 6-1, 6-2. Her composure and control under pressure stood out, leaving little hope for the home crowd. The gap in experience and skill between the two players was clear throughout.

With this victory, Gauff becomes the fourth American woman to reach multiple French Open finals in the Open Era. She joins legends Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, and Serena Williams on this prestigious list.

Gauff’s return to the Paris final underscores her growth since her first appearance in 2022. She now looks ahead with confidence, aiming to build on her past experience and compete for her first Roland Garros title.

Coco Gauff ends French dreams at Roland Garros

The French Open final will feature a clash between the top two players in the world rankings. Aryna Sabalenka, ranked No. 1, overcame defending champion Iga Swiatek in a three-set semifinal. Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Coco Gauff comfortably defeated French wild card Lois Boisson to reach her second final in Paris.

Gauff, who was runner-up at Roland Garros in 2022, is aiming to win her second Grand Slam title. She previously defeated Sabalenka in the 2023 US Open final. Since then, they have met four times, splitting the wins evenly. Their upcoming final will mark their 11th meeting.

The last time a French Open final featured the top two seeds was in 2013. A similar No. 1 vs. No. 2 final at a major happened in 2018 at the Australian Open. Gauff and Sabalenka now bring back that level of rivalry to Roland Garros.

In her semifinal match, Gauff dominated from the start. She broke Boisson’s serve six times in just over an hour. The young French player was unable to gain momentum, and Gauff kept the crowd quiet with her steady and powerful performance.
