Cody Bellinger had himself a night on Friday against the Chicago Cubs. In his first encounter against his former team, he hit 3 home runs in a game for the first time in his career, which left the fans on social media going wild.
Bellinger, the former National League MVP, was traded to the Yankees in the offseason. After losing out on Juan Soto, the team would acquire him through a trade from the Cubs in exchange for a right-handed relief pitcher, Cody Poteet.
The 2-time MLB All-Star entered this game on a 15-game hitting streak. After recording a flyout in the 1st inning, he smashed a 2-run home run in the 3rd inning to extend his hitting streak to 16 games and gave his side a 3-0 lead.
In his next at-bat in the 5th inning, Bellinger hit his second 2-run home run of the game. The left-handed hitter connected on a 93 mph fastball of Caleb Thielbar to make it a 5-0 game.
This turned out to be the 18th time that Bellinger had a multi-home run game. He would then get robbed of a solo home run in the 7th inning. Outfielder Kyle Tucker would make a great play by leaping over the wall to stop him.
The former Los Angeles Dodgers star, though, was not going to stay down. In the bottom of the 8th inning, he hit his 3rd 2-run home run of the game. He would hit a high fly ball off Jordan Wicks that just sailed over the leaping Pete Crew-Armstrong in the right center field.

Bellinger eventually finished the game going 3-for-5 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI. He would have become just the 2nd New York Yankees star after late great Lou Gehrig to have a 4 home run game if Tucker had not robbed him in the 7th inning.
