The New York Yankees have increased their efforts to sign Cody Bellinger. As per reports, the team is willing to give him a $30 million salary. However, the player is now reported to be asking for a 7-year deal.
The former National League MVP has been one of the top priorities for the Yankees this offseason. After losing out on Juan Soto, the team brought in Bellinger through a trade from the Chicago Cubs.
In the 2025 season, Bellinger impressed the fans with his batting and fielding abilities. He smashed 29 home runs and had 98 RBIs from 152 games while having a .272/.334/.480 slash line. With the glove, he fielded in all 3 outfield positions.
According to previous reports, his agent Scott Boras was seeking an 8-year, $400 million deal for him. It is likely that he will not be getting this amount.
As per Bryan Hoch, there was a difference in years and AAV (Average Annual Value). Bellinger, who made $27.5 million last year, was seeking a salary of around $30 million.
The Yankees’ latest multi-year offer is said to be more than $30 million per year. However, the 2-time MLB All-Star is looking for a 7-year deal.

In the midst of this, the Cubs have also checked in on Bellinger. The left-handed hitter had previously signed a 3-year, $80 million deal with the Cubs in February 2024.
Fans attack Cody Bellinger for asking 7-year deal with Yankees
It is no secret that the New York Yankees like Cody Bellinger and want him back on the team. While the team is ready to offer him more money, he is now asking for a long-term deal. This has caused outrage among fans on social media.

That’s ridiculous from Bellinger and Boras. No team is coming close to offering that. Just please get Tucker, it’s not that difficult.

With the way things are going, several Yankees fans are urging their team to turn its attention to someone else apart from Bellinger. So far, the American League East side has had a slow offseason with Trent Grisham being their only marquee signing.
Yankees looking more seriously at Bo Bichette amid stalled talks with Cody Bellinger
There is a growing frustration among New York Yankees fans as the team’s talks with Cody Bellinger are being stalled due to a gap in negotiations. Amid this, reports emerged that the team are having a serious look at Bo Bichette.

Bichette is another high-profile name that has not signed with a team yet. Following an impressive season with the Toronto Blue Jays, the American international became a free agent.
Given their recent signings, there is a growing concern that Bichette may not return to the Blue Jays. Teams like the Philadelphia Phillies, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs have all checked in on him.
The Yankees are now reported to be looking at him. As per insider Jon Heyman, the New York-based side is looking “more seriously” at him. The player, on the other hand, is eyeing a $300 million deal in free agency.

Another name the Yankees could target is Kyle Tucker. As per Heyman, the team is very much into the mix but face stiff competition from other suitors.

Like Bichette and Bellinger, Tucker will also demand huge money to sign with the Yankees. It will be interesting to see who the Bronx Bombers eventually land before the start of the 2026 season.
