Recently, WWE released Drew Gulak following allegations made by former WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey. Now, he finds himself in even more controversy, as some harsh comments made by Cody Rhodes about him seven years ago have surfaced online.
After his release, several NXT talents claimed that he was a ‘bully’ and often targeted real injuries during their matches against him. Cody Rhodes had been a witness to this kind of behavior, as he made some comments regarding the same issue. During his past interview on the Busted Open Podcast, he stated that The Legal Eagle was just a jealous person. The American Nightmare concluded his statement by saying, “He sucks.”
As for the allegations Ronda Rousey made, the 37-year-old did try to come up with an explanation. He stated that he was just going to say ‘hello’ to her but accidentally touched the drawstring of her sweatpants. Gulak clarified that it was only an accident and immediately apologized to her after the mishap.
There is a wrestler by the name of Drew Gulak, and I'm going to go ahead and tell you I think he sucks. He looked at me from his table, and frustrated and jealous, because there were people in line at my table.Cody Rhodes on Drew Gulak via Busted Open Radio
Gulak and Rousey also had a few on-screen segments during the latter’s rivalry with Charlotte Flair in 2022. The Legal Eagle was assisting Adam Pearce with some of his work, but he became an easy target for both women to release their frustration. With Cody’s comments about him surfacing online, it certainly won’t help Drew Gulak, who’s been on the receiving end of severe backlash.
Cody Rhodes comments on being the face of the new era
After Cody Rhodes defeated AJ Styles in the main event at Backlash, he appeared at the post-show press conference. The American Nightmare expressed his opinion on what it felt like to be the face of the new era.
The 38-year-old star stated that it was always a special feeling when someone else told him that he was the top guy. He revealed that two people heaped praise on him backstage at Backlash. Although he didn’t disclose the first person’s identity, he said the other person was Jamie Noble, who really helped him on his journey to the top.
A wrestler will tell you, ‘I’m the face of the place, I’m the face of this new era. I’m the lead dog. I’m the quarterback.’ A wrestler will say all those things and say it with bravado and beat his chest.Cody Rhodes via post-show press conference
After successfully retaining his title at Backlash, The American Nightmare would look forward to a new challenge. It will be interesting to see how his title run pans out as the King and Queen of the Ring PLE is just a few weeks away.
