This week’s SmackDown saw the continuation of the rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. After the ‘Scottish Warrior’ encountered Nick Aldis and an entire crew of security personnel backstage, McIntyre was asked by the SmackDown GM to leave the arena. Aldis reminded McIntyre that he was still suspended by dismissing hearing his Paul Heyman plea.
The Ayr-born wrestler was part of the victorious men’s WarGames team last weekend at Survivor Series. He was able to compete after Heyman used a loophole to his advantage by securing any member of the current WWE roster to tackle the babyfaces. As McIntyre was bickering with Aldis and company, he demanded for his suspension to be lifted in a fair move.

The SmackDown General Manager, however, was in no mood to buy any of it. Aldis asked McIntyre to exit, and the latter agreed, citing he wanted his fellow WWE employees to go home to their families safely. ‘The Chosen One’ also said loud and clear that Aldis’ decision was only hurting fans. After McIntyre rolled back in his car, Rhodes attacked him out of nowhere.
WWE's resident cockroach?! 😳

‘The American Nightmare’ was unloading on the former 3MB member from beside the driver’s seat. The security somehow separated these two, and McIntyre stormed off in the meantime. An irate Cody Rhodes headed to the ring and started verbally unleashing on ‘The Scottish Psychopath’. The former AEW EVP brought up how McIntyre ambushed him inside his tour bus before WarGames.
That wasn’t just an attack on the Undisputed WWE Champion but also a glaring breach of Rhodes’ personal space where his wife slept and his daughters played. ‘The Prodigal Son’ aimed a dig at McIntyre by regarding him as “WWE’s Resident Cockroach”. To settle the score with McIntyre, Rhodes repeatedly pleaded with Nick Aldis to reinstate the Scotsman on the SmackDown roster once again.
Cody Rhodes set for mouth-watering clash at Saturday Night’s Main Event
After Cody Rhodes cooled off following the initial outburst on SmackDown, Nick Aldis took him over to meet some guests. NXT Champion Ricky Saints and Oba Femi were present there, and Aldis thanked them for turning up on such short notice.
‘The American Nightmare’ informed Saints and Femi that the winner of their title match at tonight’s Deadline PLE will face him in a champion vs. champion showdown at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Rhodes mentioned how John Cena has been pretty vocal about showcasing talent from NXT on his last night in WWE as an active performer. Having said that, the stakes have never been higher. Either Saints or Femi will get to share the ring with the Undisputed WWE Champion in front of a sold-out Capital One Arena on December 13. For the unversed, Saints and Rhodes have faced each other in AEW.

They were often pegged to cross paths on the main roster in WWE at some point, and it could happen as early as next Saturday. Rhodes congratulated ‘The Absolute One’ back in late September when he ousted Oba Femi to become the new NXT Champion.
Saints is just one title defense away from wrestling Rhodes in WWE, whom he recently named as one of his dream opponents alongside the likes of Seth Rollins, Carmelo Hayes, and Dominik Mysterio. But what if Femi has different plans?
He could steamroll Saints to regain the NXT title and also unlock the golden opportunity to oppose arguably WWE’s hottest babyface in just a matter of days.
