Following the chaotic ending to SummerSlam, Cody Rhodes kicked off the latest episode of SmackDown. Rhodes went straight into business, teasing the next challenger for his Undisputed Championship. Before he could say anything further, however, Solo Sikoa and The Bloodline interrupted him. Sikoa demanded a rematch for the title, claiming that he was screwed out of it last week.
Moreover, the self-proclaimed Tribal Chief mentioned that Roman Reigns cost him in the main event of SummerSlam. Rhodes responded, calling Sikoa out for his hypocrisy. The American Nightmare blamed the former Enforcer for Jacob Fatu‘s alleged injury on Saturday. Just when the faction was about to attack the champion, Kevin Owens showed up with steel chairs to even the odds. This prompted The Bloodline to retreat.
Moments after this, Rhodes stopped Owens and asked him to get back in the ring. The Atlanta native revealed that The Prizefighter will be receiving a title shot at Bash in Berlin. Surprisingly, the former Universal Champion denied the offer. Owens said that he didn’t deserve a shot at the Undisputed Championship, citing his win-loss record over the past year.
An adamant Cody Rhodes stated that he would make this match official by speaking with Nick Aldis. He lived up to his promise as Aldis made the bout official for the upcoming PLE in a backstage segment. Needless to say, fans cannot wait to see how the anticipated battle unfolds on August 31 in Berlin.
How Cody Rhodes and Nick Aldis convinced Kevin Owens to accept title shot offer on SmackDown
In the aforementioned backstage segment, Kevin Owens initially remained firm on his decision to not accept a title shot. Nick Aldis said that he would speak with Roman Reigns about a potential rematch. Owens instantly claimed that Reigns didn’t deserve a shot at the title.
The Prizefighter argued that The Head of the Table used questionable tactics to retain the title during his record-breaking reigns. In fact, he pointed out how he never received a rematch for the Universal Championship in 2016. Instead, Owens asked Aldis to pick someone more deserving from the locker room.
Aldis obliged, stating that he picked the Grand Slam champion as the next viable contender. Cody Rhodes stood there with a smirk on his face. By the looks of it, Rhodes and Aldis planned to bait Owens into accepting the title shot at Bash in Berlin.
