As expected, Cody Rhodes arrived on the latest episode of SmackDown in an aggrieved mood. After what transpired last week, he waited backstage to seek revenge on AJ Styles. However, when the veteran arrived alongside The Good Brothers, the two sides were separated by security. Rhodes marched down to the ring and called The Phenomenal One out to the ring.
Styles chose wisely to stand on stage. Moments later, The American Nightmare took to the mic and verbally berated the former WWE Champion for his actions. Moreover, he demanded a rematch for the Undisputed Championship at Clash at the Castle. Rhodes confirmed the stipulation of the bout by vowing to make his adversary say, “I Quit.”
SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, who was present at ringside, made the match official. Despite that, Cody Rhodes fought through security and tried to get his hands on the #1 contender. As he was being held back, AJ Styles took advantage and delivered a cheap shot at the champion. Once again, The OC stood tall to end the segment.
Last week, the 47-year-old crossed the line when he tricked Rhodes after teasing his retirement. Following his loss at Backlash, Styles begged for one more match against the Grandson of a Plumber. When he was denied the chance, he resorted to taking a page out of Mark Henry‘s book. Needless to say, fans can expect a brutal and enthralling contest when the two Georgia natives meet in Scotland next week.
Cody Rhodes recently reflected on his Hell in a Cell classic against Seth Rollins
On June 6, 2022, Cody Rhodes infamously fought and defeated Seth Rollins in a Hell in a Cell match. What made this bout special was that The American Nightmare competed despite having a torn pec. Recently, the event hit its second anniversary, and Rhodes had plenty to say about the special night.
The Undisputed WWE Champion showered praise on the Chicago crowd that night. Moreover, the former AEW EVP claimed that it still feels surreal for him to look back at the clips of the gruesome battle.
After revealing his injury prior to the match, the live crowd and audience watching at home were shocked, to say the least. However, Rhodes earned the respect of the WWE Universe, which helped catapult him to become the biggest babyface of the promotion.
