Although Cody Rhodes is the Undisputed WWE Champion right now, he has been an influential figure in the success of AEW. When he parted ways with WWE, he joined hands with Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and Tony Khan to establish AEW. Although he left the Jacksonville-based company due to personal reasons in 2022, he stated that there are no bad feelings towards them.

While speaking on the Cheap Heat podcast, Cody Rhodes talked about why he would never root against his previous company. He said that he was very disappointed when the narratives changed a lot about what he had done for AEW. The American Nightmare further added that some people even tried to spread false rumors when he left.

Rhodes talked about his relationship with The Young Bucks and how close they had been since the beginning. He rightfully claimed credit for putting the company on the map. Therefore, it was very hard for him to say anything ill-mannered about them. The 38-year-old star compared the Jacksonville-based company to his creation.

I’ll say: the narrative changed a lot about my contributions to AEW, and that was very disappointing. There were some people, I’m not going to say their names, they know who they were, who kind of tried to put some propaganda out when I left. That’s not always easy because random things said about you at press conferences, and that’s a big no-no, you should never say me or my wife’s name, Tony should have told you that. So, yeah, I’ll never root against them. I really won’t.

Speaking of his WWE run, after his historic win at WrestleMania XL, Rhodes was waiting for his first challenger. Fellow Georgian wrestler AJ Styles grabbed the opportunity by defeating his longtime rival, LA Knight. It will be interesting to see who wins, as both stars are going to compete against each other for the first time at Backlash.

Cody Rhodes breaks silence on turning heel in the future

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that he has become the ultimate babyface following his historic victory. However, after many legends and former WWE superstars saw the potential in him to be a good heel, he expressed his honest opinions about it.

During the same interview, he also discussed the possibility of him potentially joining the dark side in the future. Although the idea excited him, he found it unlikely to happen because of how he saw himself in WWE. However, he also didn’t completely thwart the idea of turning heel, which gave fans hope that they might see his evil version somewhere down the line.

With the time I have left contract-wise, I don’t don’t see it. But again, never say never. Absolutes are the worst thing in sports entertainment and pro wrestling.

If Rhodes decides to become a heel again, it wouldn’t be his first time assuming that role. During his first run with the company, he was a bad guy for the majority of it. The former AEW star partnered with Randy Orton in Legacy, becoming ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes, and then finally adopting the Stardust persona. Despite being one of the most lovable superstars, a potential heel turn will be interesting, to say the least.
