Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre to become a 3-time Undisputed WWE Champion on this week’s SmackDown. The crowd in Portland came unglued for the title change. However, the online reaction to it reeked of a sheer contrast. The official upload of Rhodes vs. McIntyre on WWE’s YouTube channel is currently sitting at a staggering 138.6k dislikes against 31k likes. But is there more than meets the eye?

An account on X going by the username GHDEMON uploaded a screenshot of him paying $250 to bot 65k dislikes on the aforementioned video. The account, which has now deactivated itself, also claimed that it paid for 100k more dislikes. It also promised that the video will clock 150k dislikes in the next day. It explained that a million dislikes would be an impossible task until real people jump on the bandwagon.

The flip side of the coin is that a number of accounts are vehemently dismissing the narrative of bot-assisted dislikes. They’re pushing a response from Grok, where it says that botting dislikes in the range of 65k-100k at a nominal charge of $250 is unlikely to stay intact as YouTube’s AI phases out bots very quickly.

It added that the dislikes-to-likes ratio on Cody Rhodes‘ WWE title triumph video has stemmed more from the organic fan backlash than bots. While this online debate between Rhodes’ supporters and his naysayers will never die down, it has yet to be seen how the live crowds will react to their brand-new Undisputed WWE Champion.

It’s been almost four years since The QB1’s return to WWE, and he has consistently stayed mighty popular among the fans. The younger demographic of wrestling fans still adore the former AEW EVP, who has time and again been hailed as the next John Cena-level babyface of the company. It was exactly what WWE had in mind for Rhodes when their officials were hellbent on bringing him back.

What message does Randy Orton have for Cody Rhodes after his WWE title win?

Drew McIntyre lost the Undisputed WWE title after 56 days of gaining it in January in that Three Stages of Hell match against Cody Rhodes. ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ is on track to take on Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania after the latter stopped McIntyre from taking a swing at Rhodes with the title belt.

On the other hand, ‘The American Nightmare’ finally has the attention of Randy Orton, who has sent a message to his former Legacy stablemate.

‘The Viper’ posted on X that he’ll see Rhodes next Friday on SmackDown, where they’ll meet for the contract signing of their WrestleMania 42 clash. As per a recent report from BodySlam, WWE decided to pull the trigger on Rhodes vs. Orton after starting to mull over it in the beginning of February.

The company wanted to shake things up on the road to WrestleMania and give a payoff to those numerous teases between Orton and Rhodes. The entire world saw how ‘The Viper’ dropped Rhodes with the RKO the second he turned his back on him after taking out McIntyre with the Cross Rhodes.

Orton didn’t hesitate and got the desired result, which he couldn’t get the last time he and Rhodes went one-on-one at Night of Champions last year. The St. Louis-born wrestler set up ‘The QB1’ for the punt kick, but a rollercoaster of emotions kept him from kicking his best friend on the side of his head.

However, when Cody Rhodes got the opportunity to take advantage of Orton’s injured shoulder, the ‘Prodigal Son’ doubled down on it by driving the 45-year-old shoulder-first into an exposed turnbuckle. That led Rhodes to the King of the Ring crown. It’d be very interesting to see what arguments the two of them will make in their promos now that they’re set to main event WrestleMania.
