Colby Covington‘s highly anticipated return to the UFC after a year-long hiatus didn’t unfold as he would’ve hoped. Facing Joaquin Buckley, ‘Chaos’ struggled to find his rhythm and was dominated throughout the fight. This left fans and fellow fighters surprised and disappointed with the unexpected outcome.

Colby Covington made his way to the octagon along with newly appointed coach, UFC legend Chael Sonnen. Other than that, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan also accompanied the fighter. However, all of this support was of no use once the cage was closed.

Buckley was aggressive from the get-go and put immense pressure on Covington. He was able to outstrike the former title challenger, forcing him to shoot for takedowns. Buckley also impressed fans with his solid takedown defense, which left Covington helpless.

Buckley managed to land a strike that opened a cut on Covington’s right eyelid, which progressively worsened and caused significant bleeding. In the third round, the referee paused the fight to have the ringside doctor examine the injury. After assessing the severity of the cut, the doctor determined that Covington could not continue. This led to the fight being stopped and Buckley earning a TKO victory.
