Colby Covington will return to the UFC octagon following a one-year absence. Before his main event fight with exciting welterweight Joaquin Buckley this weekend, the ‘Chaos’ opted to stir some controversy. This time around, the former welterweight contender targeted heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Jon Jones and Covington have known one another for a long time and clearly have mutual animosity. They shared a room for one semester at Iowa Central Community College and got to know each other better. As it turned out, those days were enough to fuel Covington’s hatred for Jones as a person.

Jon has some fruity tendencies…. It’s very strange…I remember in college he always used to get the fattest girls in the school. I’m talking 300 pounds-plus….He knows deep down inside, like, I know his dark, hidden secrets that are in his closet… He’s a f**king coward, he’s a cheat, and he’s a woman beater.

Jones recently defended his heavyweight belt against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309; however, Covington wasn’t impressed by it. According to the top welterweight, Miocic, at the age of 42, didn’t belong in the octagon. Covington even slammed Jones for ducking Tom Aspinall and taking easier fights as the reigning champion.

Despite Jones’ continuous avoidance of the possible showdown with Aspinall, it appears that this time it will happen. UFC CEO Dana White has also approved this massive bout, and fans are hyped about it. On the other hand, White is not new to the animosity between Jones and Covington.

When Jon Jones allegedly didn’t want to fight with Colby Covington on the same card

Colby Covington’s heel persona is a loud, trash-talking figure meant to provoke and excite. He thrives on polarizing fans, generating buzz, and developing interest in his fights. This has been a constant in all his appearances which has given him the much needed attention.

As a result of this, the fighter has developed a variety of enemies inside the MMA community and Jon Jones is definitely one of them. Last year, a reporter asked Dana White about Covington’s claims about Jones not fighting with him on the same card. After the discussion, White had a befitting reply backing Jones.

I don’t think Jon Jones could give a s*** one way or the other…the guy is literally the greatest fighter of all time in mixed martial arts. So, I don’t think he’s worried about who’s on the co-main event but I could be wrong.

Dana White’s well-known admiration for Jones makes his response predictable to the MMA community and media. However, the head honcho is well aware of Covington’s potential to draw the numbers with his trash-talking. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see Jones’ latest response to these claims.
