Colby Covington vs. Leon Edwards went down as the main attraction of UFC 296. It had one of the best buildups with ‘Chaos’ acing his trash-talking abilities. However, during the UFC 296 press conference, he crossed a line by remarking Edwards’ late father. Now, Edwards’ coach Dave Lovell shared his conversation with UFC CEO Dana White after the incident.
Dave Lovell made his appearance on the MMA Hour Show where he discussed the brash comments of Colby Covington. As such, he revealed his conversation with Dana White contemplating the question ‘What was the limit to these trash-talks?’. Later, he mentioned White’s response which involved calling ‘Chaos’ a ‘Scum’. Here is what he said:
I said, 'Dana, where do you draw the line?' Dana (White) turns around and says, 'Well listen, you know what kind of scum you're dealing with.' I said, 'Yes Dana, but you gotta draw a line somewhere, bro.' Colby Covington took it a little too far in his trash-talk by mentioning Leon Edwards’ late father. The public perceived it as too much. However, ‘Chaos’ had no regrets whatsoever. Further, the comments he made affected ‘Rocky’ and he revealed breaking down backstage. Also, Edwards stated it took quite some time to get calm and focus on his fight.
In the end, Leon Edwards fought with a clear mind on fight day and secured a decisive win over Colby Covington. As such, we could see his coach Dave Lovell arguing with ‘Chaos’ inside the octagon during ‘Rocky’s’ post-fight presentation. So, it was fair to say the animosity between them hadn’t cooled off even after a win.

The MMA world was furious toward Colby Covington after he disrespected Leon Edwards’ deceased father during his trash-talk stint. As such, it blew off the welterweight champion to act emotionally.
However, on fight night, ‘Rocky’ maintained his composure and pulled off a dominant victory over ‘Chaos’. However, this wasn’t enough for his coach Dave Lovell as he was seen arguing with Covington during Leon Edwards’ post-fight presentation.

After the incident inside the cage, Dave Lovell revealed the words he exchanged with Colby Covington. He mentioned that he just wanted to let ‘Chaos’ know that he had crossed a line and there was no coming back.

Trash-talking has been a part of combat sports ever since it began. With superstars from Muhammad Ali to Conor McGregor, most of them used it as a tool to get under the skin of their opponents. However, there was an undrawn line to it and Colby Covington went past it with Leon Edwards. As such, he faced the repercussions of it as the fight fans turned on him and trashed him for his act.
Now, after losing his third title shot, he still wanted to make a comeback. As for ‘Rocky’ he was ready to defend his title in 2024.
