Colby Covington has been out of the octagon for some time now. Since his last welterweight title loss against Leon Edwards, the ‘Chaos’ has decided not to participate in any other bouts. A potential injury remains the main reason for inactivity. However, as it turns out, the American fighter might be scheduled for a return later this year.

Covington recently attended Round Up Country Western Nightclub in Florida, and as a promotional opportunity, they uploaded his photo online. The caption on the Instagram photo initially stated that the welterweight fighter was preparing for his next bout in November. Later, the post was edited, but it was too late.

There have been no official announcements regarding UFC 309, but it will occur at the iconic Madison Square Garden. In the main event, Jon Jones will defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic in a much-anticipated legacy fight. If it happens, it will be Covington’s second fight at the MSG, the first being the title fight at UFC 268.

Who are the potential opponents for Colby Covington?

In recent interviews, Colby Covington has frequently based the new welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. It is evident that he is desperate for a title opportunity. However, given his last few bouts, getting a title shot is not in the discussion. Covington has also touched upon his ongoing beef with rising welterweight Ian Garry. The Irishman repeatedly called Covington out, making it an interesting battle.

There are also rumors about Covington fighting former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier in a legacy fight. After his recent retirement, DP has hinted at a last dance later this year.

On top of it, Colby Covington was also called out by Sean Brady for a fight. This came after Brady recently beat Gilbert Burns. In the latest YouTube video, UFC veteran Chael Sonnen discussed the situation in detail.

You could be in there in New York at the garden opposite Poirier in Poirier's retirement fight or you can be there with Brady…I feel somewhat comfortable telling you guys that Colby vs. Poirier is not on the works and Brady is gonna try to insert himself.

Knowing Colby Covington, fans are more inclined towards him fighting Poirier due to the financial aspect of the fight. Both fighters are popular and have been sneaking diss towards each other for a long time. It would only make sense for the UFC to give both the fighters to settle the score once and for all.
