Colby Covington blasts ‘pathetic little b*tch’ Dustin Poirier for not accepting grudge match: “He’s scared of my shadow”

UFC welterweight Colby Covington still down to scuffle with Dustin Poirier, but doesn’t expect 'Diamond' to answer the call.

Colby Covington is pure ‘Chaas,’ and high on believing that instinctive brawler Dustin Poirier wants no part of him. The UFC 155-pound rumor mill has Poirier on for some big legacy bow-out matchup. Covington fights at welterweight and was briefly even an interim belt holder at UFC 170 pounds. However, given their rivalry, there’s speculation for months that these two might face each other.

Colby Covington (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) blames “Diamond” as one of the prime reasons why he parted ways with ATT (American Top Team). He’s had several run-ins with his former teammates. Finally, at UFC 272, he fought former friend turned foe Jorge Masvidal, defeating him via a lopsided decision. With Dustin Poirier looking for one last dance, the rival thinks he’s dreading to face him.

No word on the Dustin fight; …He’s been scared of my shadow for years, ever since we trained together at that old gym. The guy just knows what I bring to the table. He knows he can’t beat me — He’s not even willing to try like his friend Jorge… At least he tried…He’s going to go into retirement knowing that I owned his soul, and he didn’t defend his family’s honor and legacy, so Dustin’s a little c*ck. He’s Louisiana swamp trash and he’s a pathetic little b*tch.

In 2022, ‘Diamond’ publicly claimed that Covington would never make a payday by fighting him inside the octagon. He also claimed that both both of them would have to fight outside, and both may go to jail. Covington also called Poirier out after his dominant victory over Masvidal at UFC 272. However, that matchup never came to fruition.

Colby Covington would need this grudge matchup as he’s facing quite the slump. The three-time UFC welterweight title challenger is fresh off a doctor stoppage TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa (UFC on ESPN 63). The 36-year-old American fighter is aiming to return in three months’ time, with the hopes of competing in the first half of the year.

Team coaches Daniel Cormier, Chael Sonnen propose intriguing assistant coaches fight to close out ‘TUF 33’

Blame TUF Season 31’s Conor McGregor for this one. As is customary for the reality TV series, team coaches (except for McGregor vs. Michael Chandler) fight after the season has aired. Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko concluded their WMMA trilogy after TUF 32. However, McGregor is AWOL and far away from an MMA return.

No one knows who can fit the bill; they’d have to contend against each other afterward and build up a rivalry. Enter Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, the co-hosts of the popular “Good Guy / Bad Guy” Podcast. Good guy DC and bad guy Chael Sonnen already have a dynamic and quips in reserve.

But would two veterans fight when they usually, constantly turn down such offers? Another season that doesn’t culminate in a battle between the coaches? However, NCAA All-American honors/Pac-10 Conference champ and current UFC welterweight Colby Covington could be a good bet for it. Sonnen already likes the wrestler and even cornered him for UFC Tampa.

So, … Chael and I are talking, and we’re going, I have Michael Chiesa on my coaching staff. Chael has Colby Covington on his coaching staff…Why don’t they just fight and then Chael and I coach them? …That’s about as close as we would both get to going back into the octagon. Why don’t those dudes just fight each other?

“Chaos” is ready to enter a 12-week training camp with a guaranteed opponent. Dustin Poirier has hinted at possible fight news, with brass working for an event in Louisiana. But that heated rivalry is going nowhere. Poirier will never fight Covington in the UFC.

Covington and Michael Chiesa, though, have previously traded barbs. Last August, Chiesa said he wanted to meet Covington to determine “best welter in the Pacific Northwest” in UFC. Covington grew up in Oregon; Chiesa in Washington. At UFC 310 PPV, Chiesa, 37, submitted Max Griffin to win his second straight fight. A week later, Covington, 36, lost in Tampa.
