In typical fashion, Colby Covington did not think twice before involving Dustin Poirier‘s family while trash-talking the retired fighter over his recent arrest. The two have shared a bitter rivalry for quite a while now. As such, ‘Chaos’ took to social media immediately after the news broke to mock ‘The Diamond’.
For the unversed, Poirier was taken into custody on Sunday evening for public intoxication. The former interim lightweight champion was said to be released at 10 PM on the same day. He then made an initial court appearance the following morning on Monday. That said, more details of how his arrest played out have yet to be made publicly available.
Despite the limited information surrounding his arrest, his longtime rival wasted no time in trolling the Lafayette-born ex-fighter. He took to his X account to post a scathing message aimed at the lightweight for being intoxicated in public on Father’s Day.
Nothing says role model and family man like being arrested for public intoxication at 37 years old at 6:38 pm… on Father’s Day. Hit me up when you get out the clink @dustinPoirier and I’ll send some RAB Zero to the father of the year.

For his part, Dustin Poirier has addressed the entire situation on his social media. He posted short message on his Instagram story reiterating his love for his fans.
Love you all, I’m working on myself.

‘The Diamond’ retired from active competition in 2025, ending his career on a loss to Max Holloway at UFC 318. Since then, he has taken an analyst role with the UFC and its broadcasting partner, Paramount. Poirier is among the main crew members of the Deep Waters podcast on Paramount+.
Earlier this year, Colby Covington also retired from the UFC after a lengthy absence, with his last outing also resulting in a brutal doctor’s stoppage loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa in December 2024.
However, ‘Chaos’ has remained active in Real American Freestyle and is booked to face top UFC lightweight Arman Tsarukyan at RAF 11 in a long-anticipated bout. Covington has been quite close to the promotion, and as such, the former interim welterweight champion even signed an extension with them.
Colby Covington has signed a new 8-bout deal with RAF
Despite not having fought in the UFC since his stoppage loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa in December 2024, Colby Covington defeated Chris Weidman in a close catchweight grappling match under the RAF banner via decision in May earlier this year.
The Clovis native is now set to make a quick turnaround for his aforementioned bout with Arman Tsarukyan on July 18th. He is one of the RAF’s biggest stars, especially now that he has quit the UFC and can focus more time on the promotion.

Covington has worked closely with co-owner Chad Bronstein who has been very complimentary of the ex-UFC fighter. Recently, in an interview with Heavy, Bronstein revealed that the 38-year-old has signed an eight-fight extension with RAF.
Colby’s one of the greatest people I’ve got to know…He’s been training pretty extensively and he wants to keep going…I think he’s gonna wrestle a lot. We just signed an eight-match deal with him, so he’s gonna wrestle eight times.

The co-owner of the RAF also expressed his elation at the notion that signing stars like Colby Covington will allow the masses to see how great a sport really is. Since the RAF’s inception, the promotion has leveraged the star power of UFC fighters like Merab Dvalishvili, Urijah Faber, and Khamzat Chimaev to help grow the organization.
Tsarukyan even once joked about adding $100 million to the promotion’s valuation. Nonetheless, it is quite evident that Covington has been keeping himself busy despite departing the UFC. Not only is he competing in wrestling bouts, but the former interim 170lbs champion is also keeping old rivalries alive with the abovementioned jab at Dustin Poirier.
However, unlike the RAF, where his next bout is confirmed, it remains to be seen whether there will be another twist in the tale of his feud with Poirier.
