The Cleveland Browns find themselves in an intriguing situation. With five quarterbacks on board, the team is busy holding a quarterback duel during Organized Team Activities (OTAs) to determine who is most deserving of winning the starter’s role. With the likes of Joe Flacco, Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett fighting for the starting job, the Browns quarterback battle is one to keep a close eye on.

Shedeur Sanders is the man that all fans have their eyes on. After a minor setback in the NFL Draft, the quarterback is hell bent on ensuring that he silences the critics with his game in the NFL. However, from a commonsensical perspective, at this stage, Joe Flacco is the safest bet for Cleveland.

Jumping onto the Shedeur Sanders-hype train is one notable sports analyst who has witnessed hundreds of quarterbacks come and go each year. FS1’s Colin Cowherd made a bold claim on The Herd. He believes that Sanders is ready to step up and take the starter’s job in Cleveland.

I’ve seen enough, I’m calling it a wrap. By a landslide, Shedeur Sanders should be starting.

But what about the other three major contenders in Pickett, Gabriel, and Flacco? One might ask, but Colin Cowherd has his mind fully made.

You can keep selling me on Pickett, you can keep selling me on Dillion Gabriel. Now Flacco I buy…I think he’s going to win the starting job initially, but I’m calling it for Shedeur.

Colin Cowherd said on his show

Shedeur Sanders has continued to impress HC Kevin Stefanski at OTAs

Interestingly, the analyst is not the first media personality to have vouched for Shedeur. Recently, LeSean McCoy also expressed a similar sentiment on FS1’s The Facility. He too suggested that while the Browns will start off the year with veteran Joe Flacco as the starter, eventually by Week 7, he expects to see Shedeur Sanders as the QB1.

Colin Cowherd’s prediction is the same for the rookie quarterback. So far, the news that fans have been hearing from the Browns’ OTA has been promising. Shedeur is giving it his best, and in his latest showing, he completed seven of nine passes and threw three passes for touchdowns. That was the best showing when compared to Kenny Pickett, who completed nine of sixteen throws, and Dillon Gabriel, who finished eleven of sixteen throws with one interception.

Once again, these numbers do not mean anything because it is all during OTAs. However, there is good reason to be optimistic about Sanders’ odds of being promoted to a starter later in the season. HC Kevin Stefanski had praised the rookie’s work ethic earlier last week. He hinted that Sanders was the first one in the facility and the last one to leave, which was a testament to his work ethic.

On the flipside, Cleveland Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot’s latest report paints a grim picture for Shedeur’s future.

The Browns are also very, very excited about Dillon Gabriel, their third-round pick and then the way it played out yesterday, is the way that I thought it would, is that Shedeur right now is the fourth team quarterback. He did not take any team reps yesterday…they’re making him come up the learning curve and earn his way.

MK Cabot reported

Cabot’s report suggests that Shedeur Sanders is being given an opportunity to showcase his talent, but the Browns are still not fully sold on him being better than Dillon Gabriel. Cabot’s news is in accordance with another report, which suggested that Sanders is at risk of being cut if he does not make it to the Browns’ roster. Cleveland has a lot of options at quarterback, however, the uncertainty surrounding Deshaun Watson’s availability has left them scrambling to assemble a competitive quarterback room.
