The Los Angeles Dodgers caused another major uproar on Thursday following the signing of Kyle Tucker. Amid this, sportscaster Colin Cowherd came to their defense on social media.

The reigning MLB champions flexed their financial muscles again by adding Tucker to their team. Reports earlier claimed that along with them, the New York Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays were the favorites to land the outfielder.

The Mets even offered him a 4-year, $220 million deal with no deferrals. This would have seen him earn $60 million in the first 2 seasons and $50 million in the last two years.

However, the 4-time All-Star chose the Dodgers over them. The outfielder penned down a 4-year, $240 million deal with a net present value of $57.1 million, making him the highest earner in MLB.

This signing of Tucker comes one month after the Dodgers roped in Edwin Diaz through free agency. The relief pitcher, who opted out of his deal with the Mets, joined the LA-based side on a 3-year, $69 million deal.

During his introductory press conference, Diaz expressed that the Dodgers were a winning organization and thus he signed with them. This was something that did not sit well with the fans on social media.

The signing of Tucker caused another massive outrage among fans. Once again, they slammed the National League side for their spendings and called for a salary cap and a lockout.

Colin Cowherd later came to their defense. In a post on X, the 62-year-old expressed that the Dodgers bring in viewers and that the fans never complained about the signings the New York Yankees made when they had George Steinbrenner as their owner.

Regarding Kyle Tucker deal w LA. 1.) Playoff & WS ratings have been UP w the Dodgers dominance. 2.) Yankee fans loved owning the hot stove signings w George Steinbrenner leading the charge. Never once heard fans calling WFAN that were deeply concerned about the sport’s balance.

Colin Cowherd said regarding Dodgers

Under George Steinbrenner’s ownership, the Yankees were aggressive in the market and landed some of the big names in MLB history. This is the reason why several Yankees fans have attacked the current leadership for their slow movement in the offseason.

Dodgers have over $2.1 billion in guaranteed salary following Kyle Tucker’s signing

The Los Angeles Dodgers just keep on adding players and strengthening their team. Following the signing of Kyle Tucker, the Dodgers now have over $2.1 billion in guaranteed salary on their books.

Just like many recent signings, Tucker’s deal also has a deferral. According to reports from MLB.com, the former Houston Astros star has $30 million deferred.

The team now has 2 of the highest AAVs in MLB history. Two-way star Shohei Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million deal in 2023. However, $680 million of this has been deferred.

According to Spotrac Co-Founder and Editor Michael Ginnitti, with all the deferred money and payments, the Dodgers now have $2.11 billion in guaranteed salary in their books.

As a result of this, the 9-time World Series winners are expected to have a tax payroll of $413 million in the 2026 season. This is $96 million more than the second-place team, the New York Mets and $313 million more than the bottom-ranked, Miami Marlins.

On top of this, there are also reports of them being involved in trade talks with Tarik Skubal. If they are successful in bringing in the 2-time Cy Young Award winner, there could be an even bigger outrage next time.
