Colin Cowherd gives brutal reality check to Dallas fans after Cowboys’ thumping opening week win

FOX Sports analyst Colin Cowherd pointed out that even if the Cowboys beat the Cleveland Browns on opening day they will choke in the playoffs, given that they can qualify for it.

Dak Prescott’s first game after becoming the highest-paid player in NFL history wasn’t flashy for the Dallas Cowboys. He completed 19/32 for 179 yards and threw one touchdown, which was enough to secure an opening-day win over the Cleveland Browns.

However, Colin Cowherd pointed out it’s nothing out of the ordinary; rather, the win in Week 1 was the most Cowboys thing ever. Jerry Jones’ side last season blew out the New York Giants 40-0. Cowherd posed the important question that history might repeat itself because it’s the Cowboys. They always underperform in the postseason.

The Browns game was no different. Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy had the game in the bag before the game even reached the 4th quarter. Yet along the way, certain visible coaching mistakes from McCarthy would have proved fatal if they played against a better team with a quarterback who could throw the ball.

Cowherd blamed bad clock management throughout the game and even questionable play-calling at times.

They messed up their clocks, timeouts. It’s so Dallas, big pass rush, play calling, and Dak humming, and they can’t quite get situational football right.
Colin Cowherd said during a recent segment of FS1’s The Herd

Despite the win, Cowherd is not ready to move away from his Dallas Cowboys missing the playoffs prediction before the season kicked off. He remains adamant that the Cowboys with Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle are one of the weakest running backcores, even though they added Dalvin Cook.

He gave credit to McCarthy for using CeeDee Lamb effectively, but Cowherd believes the Cowboys will fall apart without their star receiver.

The last 3 seasons, the Dallas Cowboys, I kid you not, [you can] look it up, have won more regular season games than the San Francisco 49ers. I have seen this before.

Colin Cowherd predicted that the Dallas Cowboys would miss the playoffs

In early August, Cowherd sat down, going through each team’s chances of making the playoffs and who would win the Super Bowl. To the surprise of many, he left out the Cowboys and chose the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Rams to squeeze in ahead of Dak Prescott and Co.

He predicted the Cowboys missing the playoffs before Prescott and Lamb signed their big-money deals.

I think Dallas narrowly misses the playoffs… The NFC is better than it's been the last 2-3 years. The NFC is tougher; he has no run-game, and if they don't sign CeeDee Lamb, they're not only going to miss the playoffs; they may not have the same coach by mid-October. They were quiet in free agency, and I don't see a ton of depth.

The Dallas Cowboys are currently -350 favorites to play their fourth consecutive postseason football. However, the Cowboys are +1400 to win the Super Bowl. Up next, they will welcome the New Orleans Saints to Arlington in week 2.
