By the time the Week 7 games were over, the conversation dominating football fans and analysts was about how Lamar Jackson has been playing. The reigning league MVP made a statement with his passing game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Baltimore Ravens star has entered the conversation of the best quarterback in the league alongside Patrick Mahomes.

But for longtime analyst Colin Cowherd, the conversation has gone beyond just the ability to be a great quarterback. It is not just in being a quarterback, but also if he is the best football player in the world, especially after Jackson’s performances on MNF showed Cowherd how he impacts his team.

After watching the Monday Night Football game, and analyzing his statistics, the analyst took the Ravens quarterback to a different plateau. He took to his show, The Colin Cowherd Podcast, to discuss where he sees Jackson.

Lamar Jackson is going to win MVP. Lamar Jackson is right now the best football player on the planet, not Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback; Lamar is the best overall player.

Colin Cowherd on Lamar Jackson

The 60-year-old analyst explained his reasoning for this perspective. He observed how the Ravens quarterback is exceptionally skilled at surveying the field and delivering timely passes. He pointed out how Lamar makes split-second decisions based on the defense’s alignment after the ball is snapped.

That gives him an idea if he has to throw or run, or hand it over to Derrick Henry. That speed of judgement and his ability to manage the clock and drives has taken him above Patrick Mahomes, per the analyst. Colin Cowherd feels Lamar Jackson‘s game is making his team better overall.

Lamar Jackson and Ravens have the team to beat Chiefs

Last season, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs got the better of the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship round. They also won the season opener, albeit, with a little help from erroneous officiating. But since then, the Ravens have looked like a different team.

Not only has Lamar Jackson steadied the ship, but Derrick Henry has exploded out of the cannon. If health permits, they could run riot in the rest of the regular season. More importantly, the presence of Henry keeps the defense on their toes, giving the young receivers a chance to grow in confidence.

The only question mark is the secondary. They are leaking a lot of points and have not shown to be able to tackle consistently. Their pass rush has kept the situation under control, but once the secondary starts to dominate, this team could become a handful for the back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
