The Denver Broncos almost cemented the loss against the New York Giants with an 18-point deficit with six minutes left in the regulation time. What followed was a comeback for the ages, the Broncos walked off with a win in the final seconds with a field goal.
The victory at the Empower Field at the Mile High Stadium in Denver has brought Bo Nix back into the headlines as one of the top quarterbacks this season. Nix, 25, threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns and led the Broncos to one of the greatest comebacks in recent history.
The headlines from the beginning of the season, when Nix had a slump and the Broncos were 1-2, have shifted in the last four weeks. The Broncos won the last four, including one against the Philadelphia Eagles, and lead the AFC West ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.
The rise of Bo Nix has been the talk of the town. He has been compared to Patrick Mahomes and his winning mentality. Colin Cowherd, the controversial sportscaster and host of “The Herd,” had a bold take in the wake of the latest news.
Cowherd noted that Nix will never be like Mahomes or Josh Allen, who dominate or are highlight-reel quarterbacks, but he’ll help teams succeed consistently. Though Cowherd held that Nix is not a super-star level quarterback, he’s like Klay Thompson. Thompson isn’t the best or the flashiest player, but he has consistently shown up for the teams he has played for and has won games as well as championships for them. Cowherd said:
Bo Nix is never gonna be Mahomes. He doesn’t have that ceiling. He’s never gonna be Josh Allen. He may never be Lamar or Justin Herbert. But he’s Klay Thompson. He’s gonna be involved in championships. He’s gonna be involved in winning a lot of football games.

Bo Nix and co. have an inconsistency issue
NFL Network’s Colleen Wolfe didn’t mince words when describing Bo Nix and his team’s uneven performance. She said the group “looked hapless through those first three quarters,” unable to generate any rhythm or urgency until the pressure became impossible to ignore.

Once the clock began to wind down, however, the offense suddenly found life, piecing together drives that made them look like a completely different team. Wolfe likened it to “procrastination at its finest,” the kind of last-minute scramble that might work in the regular season but rarely holds up against playoff-caliber competition.
The Denver Broncos ended their nine-season-long playoff drought last year with a shutout against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18, securing their place in the final fourteen. However, they went down in the Wildcard Round against the Buffalo Bills, meaning that they are still hunting for the first playoff win since 2015 when they won the championship.
Wolfe’s statement rings true, especially looking at the penalty count in Colorado. The Broncos have looked like an undisciplined unit the whole season, including the one where they lost a crucial matchup due to a penalty. The lack of discipline was evident in the game against the New York Giants. They were penalized 12 times for 127 yards.
Now, in terms of how silent the offense has been, the Broncos didn’t score a touchdown for six straight quarters. The Broncos scored a touchdown in the first quarter of the game against the New York Jets in Week 6 and later a field goal in the final quarter in that low-scoring game.
The next touchdown was in the fourth quarter of their Week 7 game against the Giants. The offensive firepower have been inconsistent and such slow starts or quick fades can pressurize the Broncos into surrendering.
