Colin Cowherd tells Nick Wright that the Bengals might have to draft a new QB next year despite having Joe Burrow

Cowherd argued that Bengals need to add a good enough backup for Joe Burrow, in case he picks up another injury which would end their chances of a Super Bowl.

The biggest problem for Joe Burrow is his inability to stay fit. A healthy Burrow can be a threat to not just the AFC but to the entire NFL. Even Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright would attest to that fact.

Since entering the league, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback has only managed to get the better of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bengals defeated the Chiefs in the 2021 AFC Championship game, reaching the Super Bowl.

However, Burrow’s constant injury worries—finger, calf (twice), and wrist—made Nick Wright hypothesize that the Bengals Super Bowl window has closed. Cowherd agreed with his FOX Sports colleague under one condition.

No. But I do think one more injury and the Bengals will have to draft another quarterback, near the top first, second or third round.
Cowherd said during a recent chat on his podcast

They either purposefully forgot or omitted the impact of Jake Browning last season. After Burrow hurt his wrist, the former Washington starter stepped in and had jaw-dropping performances.

Browning won 4 games out of 7, recording 171 completions for 1936 yards with a success rate of 70% and throwing 12 touchdowns. He almost led the Burrowless Bengals to the playoffs. As a result, they decided to extend his contract for two more years in Cincinnati.

Can Joe Burrow prove as effective as before following the wrist injury?

The 27-year-old’s injury is definitely unique. A sports physician named Jesse Morse provided insight, showing how it may prevent Burrow from making his trademark dimes to Ja’Marr Chase or Tee Higgins.

This ligament is very important for the stability of the wrist, and since this/most ligaments have a poor blood supply it needed to be repaired. It’s a bad injury to have, invariably always lead to some instability over time and arthritis at an earlier age.

Fortunately for the Bengals fans, Joe Burrow returned to training on Tuesday. He had a decent run and was seen throwing some accurate light throws in between drills.

The Bengals made Burrow the highest-paid player to win the Super Bowl. If he manages to play all 17 (maybe 18) games in the regular season along with the playoffs then they would have a great chance of bagging their first-ever Championship.
