A new name has been added among the flag football enthusiasts, looking forward to the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. As Colin Kaepernick, who has been out of action since 2016, expressed an interest in representing Team USA in the Olympic Games if given an opportunity in 2028.
While his comeback in the NFL remains a big question mark, the former San Francisco 49ers star player opened up about his dream to play in the Olympics. And in his views, the best way to do that is flag football– something for which the entire country is excited about.
Hopefully we'll be out there. We're gonna work on some things, see if we can make it in there. But we'd love to be out there.Colin Kaepernick said in an interview with Sky Sports
As the 2024 Paris Olympics wrapped up on August 11, all eyes are on the next Olympic games to be held in Los Angeles. In addition to flag football, a few other sports with global audiences are also being incorporated such as T20 cricket, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and squash.
It seems like a stretch to have the 36-year-old, not only because of the age factor but also due to his inactivity in the NFL since 2016. But if viewed from a different perspective, after being drafted in 2011, Kaepernick parted ways with the league with a passer rating of 88.9.
Colin Kaepernick remains hopeful for NFL return
While talking on the subject, Kaepernick also addressed the question of him making a return in the NFL which he has previously expressed great interest in. He could have returned in 2022 in Las Vegas Raiders however it didn’t work out but the former quarterback hasn’t lost hope and intends to return if given an opportunity.
It's something I've trained my whole life for. So, to be able to step back on the field, I think that would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. Also, I think it's something that I can bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.Colin Kaepernick said
Before taking up the responsibility of civil rights activist, Kaepernick had a fantastic run playing in the NFL. After entering the league, he earned prominence as a dual-threat quarterback and led the 49ers to the Super Bowl XLVII but was outperformed by the Baltimore Ravens.
