College wrestler arrested on suspect of killing 21-year-old gymnast Kara Welsh in Whitewater
University of Wisconsin student wrestler arrested as a suspect in the murder of collegiate star gymnast Kara Welsh.

Days ago, news of the death of the star gymnast Kara Welsh through multiple gunshot wounds broke out on the internet. The Whitewater Police released the statement of the 21-year-old gymnast being found dead at her off-campus apartment. As per reports by the sources of TMZ, a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student had been taken down as a suspect.
As revealed by the same sources, a 23-year-old male identified as Chad Richards was present at the crime scene when the police arrived at the apartment. Following investigation, it was found that the shooting was a result of dissension between the two.
The suspect, a student wrestler at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was previously arrested and appeared at Walworth County Courthouse on Tuesday. Richards had been indicted with first-degree intentional homicide, endangering safety by the use of dangerous weapons, and disorderly conduct while armed, although no detailed information was provided by the police department considering this was an ongoing investigation.
The aforementioned news release by the Whitewater Police Department revealed reports of an individual suffering a gunshot wound. The incident took place on August 30th at approximately 11:54 p.m. local time in the 100 block of W. Whitewater Street in Whitewater. The police had then identified the victim to be Kara Welsh and confirmed arresting of a 23-year-old male.
Kara Welsh was majoring in management at the school’s College of Business and Economics. The news release by the school recalled Welsh as the top four out of the eight best scores recorded by a Warhawk gymnast in the program’s history. Welsh had a huge impact on the gymnastics community to say the least.
University of Wisconsin addressed Kara Welsh’s demise
The news of Kara Welsh’s tragedy has left everybody stunned and grieving. Post her death, the school’s Chancellor, Corey King, posted a news release as a tribute. The message expressed the gravity of the situation, assuring the students the support of the institution. In a further attempt, the university has planned to give extra support and flexibility in context of their classes to affected students.
In the statement, Chancellor King confirmed students, faculty and staff had been offered counseling services as everybody processed the situation. Considering the sensitivity of the situation, the Athletics leadership informed the gymnastics team and coaches in person. He further revealed that the Dean of Students office had connected with Kara’s family amid the loss.
King concluded the message by letting the students know that a memorial will be held. Until then, white flags can be spotted all around the campus. A GoFundMe page was also set up to help Welsh’s family financially amid the tragedy and it raised over $20,000 at the time of publication.
