The slow play has once again become a major concern for the PGA Tour. Recently, veteran golfer Lucas Glover suggested the idea of banning the usage of AimPoint. 6-time PGA Tour winner Collin Morikawa has now fired back at him.
This slow play issue once again came to light following Dottie Pepper‘s strong reaction at the Farmers Insurance Open at the Torrey Pines course. The final group of Harry English, Andrew Novak, and Aldrich Potgieter took 5 hours and 29 minutes to complete the round.
Appearing on the SiriusXM PGA Tour radio, Glover offered up to eight solutions to speed up the play on the tour. One of them was the banning of the use of AimPoint method.
This method is used by the golfer to read the greens and judge the break of the putts. Players use both of their feet to feel the slope and then use their fingers and eyes to determine what line to start the putt on. Glover suggested that the tour should ban this.

Morikawa is one of those golfers who uses the AimPoint method for putting. When asked about his opinion regarding Glover’s suggestion, the 2-time major champion would throw a shade at his PGA Tour rival.
I have nothing against Lucas, but if we’re banning AimPoint, I think we should ban long putters as well.

Glover, the 2009 U.S. Open winner, uses the long putter. While this has nothing to do with slow play, it has everything to do with the anchoring ban placed by the USGA and the R&A. Golfers would earlier rest the putter against their body to make a putt. Following this ban, several stars switched to the long putter.
Collin Morikawa defends usage of AimPoint ahead of the 2025 Genesis Invitational
Ahead of the 2025 Genesis Invitational, the slow play issue and the usage of AimPoint became a talking point on Tuesday. After taking a playful jab at Lucas Glover for suggesting the ban of this method, Collin Morikawa would come into the defense of this technique.

In the press conference, the American golfer claimed that from his perspective, this method had “1,000 percent” helped him. He later added that he had no issue with people who used long putters and just had to defend fellow AimPoint users
From my perspective, AimPoint has 1,000 percent helped me… I’m protecting my AimPoint guys, right? There’s guys that long putt and have AimPoint. I don’t have any beef. I don’t have anything wrong with putting like that, I just had to protect my AimPoint guys.
Collin Morikawa said in the press conference
The 28-year-old though did admit that there could be some players who use this method in the wrong spots that slows down the play. He suggested that the tour should let them know whether they are playing slow or not.
