The Colorado Buffaloes lost to West Virginia Mountaineers but gained a quarterback in Julian Lewis. If this were an early-season fixture, then perhaps Deion Sanders could pull a rabbit out of his hat. Unfortunately, Lewis’ breakout game happened far too late in the year.
Colorado visited Morgantown as the betting underdogs against the Mountaineers, even though both teams had the same record. Lewis stepped in as quarterback after Sanders understandably lost confidence in Kaidon Salter following consecutive 50-point blowout losses.
West Virginia quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. turned the ball over twice, but Fox threw one and set up two more on the ground to secure a memorable win. The game improved the Mountaineers’ record to 4-6 while Colorado fell to 3-7.
Even though Colorado has two games left on the schedule, they are mathematically eliminated from bowl eligibility. Teams need a minimum of six wins to be considered for a postseason bowl game and then hope to receive an invitation from the organizers.
Let’s set aside the bowl discussions for now, as Deion Sanders‘ team is nearing a repeat of his first year’s 4-8 record, rather than competing for a shot at silverware.

It was a big ask for Lewis to snag a win, even though he faced a WV team in the same boat as them. Unsurprisingly, the Mountaineers went into the break leading by ten points.

The real game began after the restart. Lewis threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to his number one receiver, Omarion Miller, pairing it with his first-half score, a 9-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Williams.
Colorado was in its offensive peak until Lewis’s lack of experience kicked in. Overthrown passes, bad checkdowns, and incomplete take-offs hindered the Buffaloes’ scoring ability.
WV took advantage through Curtis Jones Jr., whose 4-yard touchdown run proved sufficient to seal a win. Alejandro Mata’s 38-yard conversion wasn’t enough to help Colorado bridge the gap.
Colorado ranks third from the bottom in the Big 12, prompting fans to question Sanders’ credentials as a head coach.

Deion Sanders ought to be the GM of Colorado football. Task him with getting players and building the roster.

But keep him away from in-game coaching. Far, far away. At this aspect, he’s so bad he makes Nathaniel Hackett look like Andy Reid by comparison.

At the post-match press conference, Sanders claimed that three wins in eleven college football games do not define Colorado football.
This is not who we are. We’re better than this, and they deserve better than this. I want better than this. I feel like I’ve coached better than this. I feel like we got players that are so much better than what the production that we’re putting out.
Deion Sanders said (H/T: Bleacher Report)
Colorado has not looked the same without its standout players, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, who currently play for NFL teams. Regardless of the slump, Coach Prime has taken a 1-11 college program and has morphed it into a team that players want to play for. He is still contracted to the University of Colorado for the next four years. Perhaps the best is yet to come.
