After being sidelined for five games with a hamstring injury, Marshon Lattimore will make his debut for the Washington Commanders against his former team New Orleans Saints. Marshon Lattimore is returning to the Superdome after making an exit barely a month ago.
Marshon Lattimore is expected to make some quick impact on the Washington Commanders’ defense. After a quick ascension to the top, the Commanders three games in a row to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Dallas Cowboys. They are currently sitting in the last wildcard spot, a vulnerable position after the Los Angeles Rams scooped up a win against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.
New Orleans Saints, after their rocky start, are nowhere near the Commanders in rankings. However, they have a couple of quick wins under a new coach to guide the perilous waters. When Lattimore comes to the Superdome after being traded to Maryland, the setting is heavy with tension and anticipation.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Friday that Lattimore will take the field when Washington (8-5) visits the New Orleans Saints (5-8) this Sunday. Following a full week of practice as a full participant, the team feels confident Lattimore is prepared to resume action.
Washington acquired Lattimore in a blockbuster trade, sending three draft picks—a third, fourth, and sixth-rounder—to New Orleans in exchange for Lattimore and a fifth-round pick in 2024. In an interview with John Keim of ESPN, Lattimore admitted that he wants to showcase why he was worth the investment while reminding the Saints of what they’ve lost.
I’m feeling good, ready to play. I’ve been gone for a long time, so I’m ready to get back out there and play.
Marshon Lattimore said
Driving his return is the chance to go up against his former team in a game loaded with added significance.
I’d be lying if I said it didn’t [mean more]. They traded me away; going back to show them why they shouldn’t have. I’m happy where I’m at, but you know how it be, extra motivation for the game.

Marshon Lattimore can revitalize the Washington Commanders’ secondary
Marshon Lattimore’s return couldn’t come at a better time for the Commanders, who have struggled with inconsistent play in the secondary this season. Washington’s cornerback group has seen multiple adjustments, including rookie Mike Sainristil’s move from the slot to an outside role. Lattimore will start on one side, likely pairing with Sainristil or Benjamin St-Juste, who has started every game this season.

Depending on matchups, the Commanders have flexibility in their secondary. St-Juste’s size—at 6-foot-3 and 201 pounds—provides a physical option, while Noah Igbinoghene could slide into the slot if Sainristil remains on the outside. This adaptability will be key as Washington prepares to face the Saints’ offense.
The Washington Commanders have changed their fortunes after a disappointing last year. They have an opportunity to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020 – which makes strengthening the secondary important. A win against the Saints is not just a revenge game but a potential win that could earn a ticket to the Commanders’ postseason.
