After purchasing the Washington Commanders in 2023, Josh Harris might have been wondering where things went wrong with two out of three of his franchises in two of the biggest sports leagues in America. But then, call it a ‘miracle’ as LSU standout quarterback Jayden Daniels caught the eyes of his NFL franchise, the Commanders, and the rest are the headlines surrounding the rookie sensation.

After ending a three-decade-long draught of NFC Championship appearance, Daniels is just a victory away from becoming the first rookie quarterback in the history of the NFL to lead his team to the Super Bowl game. But the story takes an interesting turn as Harris’ NFL team is headed to the conference championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, which is also the home of his struggling Philadelphia 76ers

Given Harris’ role in the 76ers’ struggle contrasted with the Commanders’ surprising success, many would think the Philly home crowd– which already has a reputation of being extra robust and making it hard for opposing teams to perform well, would be extra charged. But Harris dismissed this notion while heading to his awkward visit to Philadelphia.

In a recent conversation with The Athletic, the 60-year-old insisted that both his teams: the Commanders and 76ers, remain strong, despite the existing rivalry between them as they face off against each other at Lincoln Field on Sunday. He stated that just because he would be cheering for Washington to win and do everything in their power to do; doesn’t mean he wouldn’t do that for Philly if his NBA team would be standing at such grand level.

It’s exactly the same, for me — Washington football and Philly basketball. But … the honest answer is, I’m truly passionate about both teams… That’s just the way I feel, genuinely. But I do understand why, for some people in Philly, they might not understand that, because they’ve had different life experiences than me. But I work just as hard for the Sixers in basketball as I do for Washington in football.

Josh Harris said

Things would have been easy for Harris if the Sixers hadn’t been at such a comprising stage in the NBA. While the Eagles are thriving and dominating the NFC East, the 76ers marked their seventh consecutive failure to advance to the conference finals this season. So, it wouldn’t be entirely unjustified to believe the Philly home crowd might vent their frustration from Harris on his NFL team– which is truly flourishing.
