Jayden Daniels has only known Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, as his primary place of work since he entered the NFL. The Washington Commanders’ QB will have to change his place of work address come 2030.

For 35 years, the then-Washington Redskins played at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium until then-owner Jack Kent Cooke decided to build a new stadium and relocate the team to its current location.

Once Josh Harris, NBA legend Magic Johnson, and the rest of the ownership group took over, they realized in this day and age, it was difficult to generate revenue just through ticket and merchandise sales.

There is not enough space around the current stadium in Landover to build new infrastructure facilities, which could have helped the team generate more off-stadium revenue.

Concerts are held at Northwest Stadium, but that’s the most they can do. That is when they started holding discussions with the DC government about a plan to demolish the old RFK Stadium and build a new one.

The ownership zeroed in on a return to RFK after looking at options across the DMV area. Finally, when the DC government took control of the stadium site after the Joe Biden regime passed a judgment before he left the Oval Office, the Commanders’ task became easier.

Then, in April, a deal was struck between the DC government, the NFL, and the Commanders to relocate. However, a 2nd and final approval was pending after the first one passed with a 9-3 vote.

Now, the $3.8 billion project, comprising $1.1 billion from the DC government and $2.7 billion from the Commanders’ owners, has received its final approval after an 11-2 vote. This sets Jayden Daniels and his teammates to return to the capital by 2030.

Commanders’ ownership ecstatic after winning approval

This vote means the team will get a brand new 65,000-seater state-of-the-art stadium, along with other infrastructure around it, utilizing the entire area around the old stadium.

Even though the New Commanders’ Stadium, as it will be known, will be owned by the DC government, the team will rake in a lot of revenue from all the facilities.

Along with tax breaks, the new infrastructure allows the Commanders to hold many more events. That explains why the franchise came out with this statement after winning the approval.

Today is a historic day for D.C., the Commanders organization, and our fans. With the council’s approval, we can now move forward on the transformative RFK project that will bring lasting economic growth for our city.

This move back to DC comes after President Donald Trump threatened to block the stadium deal if the franchise did not change its name back to the Washington Redskins.

However, now that the project has received its final approval, it seems owner Josh Harris has been able to hold his stance on keeping the Commanders’ name.

Jayden Daniels doubtful to play against Raiders

Amidst the excitement for the future of the team, Washington Commanders fans know that Jayden Daniels will be the one to lead them back into the new 65,000-seater RFK stadium come 2030.

But currently, their focus is on this season after the sophomore quarterback gave them a taste of what he can do with the football in his hands. There is hope that the team is capable of launching a Super Bowl bid.

Before that, they would like their star QB to be healthy. As per NFL Network’s lead insider Ian Rapoport, the LSU star has been rehabbing well after spraining his knee.

However, he has not started practicing and will only take to the field on Friday. That seemingly confirms that he will miss their upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
