‘Concerned’ Mina Kimes makes brutally honest admission about CJ Stroud
CJ Stroud, the reigning OROY, had a forgettable outing against the Green Bay Packers as he finished the game with just 86 yards.

ESPN analyst Mina Kimes expressed her concerns regarding CJ Stroud’s performance in the 2024 season. Kimes likened Stroud to Justin Herbert, suggesting that the quarterback’s efforts on tape don’t reflect on the box scores.
Green Bay Packers defeated Houston Texans last week, reducing the Texans’ stronghold over the AFC South. The Texans were unable to overcome the challenge of a potential playoff team collapsing under the pressure. The recent loss also highlighted the holes in the Houston Texans’ offensive line which they’ll need to fix to have a postseason and potentially succeed in the postseason as well.
Kimes, speaking on her show with Alex Smith, expressed her concerns regarding the Texans quarterback. She noted that they were supposed to be a Super Bowl team before stating that their infrastructure has been crumbling.
This CJ Stroud season is giving me Justin Herbert vibes. I am concerned!

The disoriented offense has failed to protect their center many times. Stroud has been hit almost sixty times on dropbacks throughout the season already. The passing game struggled in their recent game as Stroud ended up throwing for a career-low 86 yards and the team totaling only 55 net passing yards.
This was a disappointing performance for second-year head coach DeMeco Ryans and Stroud, who typically averages 262.3 passing yards per game. Furthermore, Stroud was sacked four times and faced pressure on nearly half of his dropbacks, showcasing the team’s offensive woes.
CJ Stroud and Justin Herbert rose to fame as Offensive Rookie of the Year in different periods
Mina Kimes made connections between CJ Stroud and Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert. She noted that they aren’t equals but their trajectory and situations are almost similar.
Justin Herbert rose to fame as the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2020. He was poised to go up against key teams like Kansas City Chiefs at one point. However, Herbert, a top-five quarterback according to Peyton Manning, lacked the infrastructure to build a Super Bowl-worthy team. Kimes noted that a similar situation is brewing in Houston. Stroud is currently the OROY after a spectacular season last year, setting a top-notch bar for rookie quarterbacks.
Both Stroud and Herbert began this season with impressive 2-0 records. Subsequently, they both faced losses against teams expected to reach the playoffs. The Los Angeles Chargers are 3-3 through Week 7 while the Texans stay marginally better. However, the parallels between these quarterbacks are striking, something Kimes thinks is cause for concern for the Houston Texans’ quarterback.
