It’s not uncommon to see tennis players forgetting scores mid-match as even greats like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have done it many times in their long careers. However, this usually happens when the player who forgot has won the match or a set and does not realize it.

Contrary to this, the Russian entertainer Daniil Medvedev thought he had lost the first set when it was still 3-6 in the tiebreak against Frenchman Alexandre Muller. In his second-round encounter, Medvedev went to take a break after losing the ninth point in the breaker and communicated with his team in an animated manner before realizing that the set was yet to be completed.

He lost the next point, letting the set go his opponent’s way. It was an uphill climb from there but the World No.5 managed to edge past Muller 6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-4, 7-5 to reach the third round.

Fans react to Daniil Medvedev’s awkward moment at Wimbledon

“This is going to be on Tennis TV bro,” Medvedev was once quoted saying and has not looked back since. Every time he steps onto a court, entertainment and funny moments are guaranteed. His on-court antics and ‘Meddy’ charm in interviews have quickly made him a fan favorite.

In his second-round match against Muller, Medvedev produced another moment for the reels as he thought he had lost the set before he actually had. He then seemed to try convincing the crowd and his team that he had lost seven points in the tiebreak with hand gestures before the moment of realization hit. Netizens think it was vintage Medvedev behavior and reacted to the hilarious moment.

While most of the reactions were humorous and in good spirits, some fans, as usual, brought in a negative touch to an innocent incident.

A fan even seemed annoyed about the fact that some unhinged, young players like Medvedev are Djokovic’s only remaining competition.

On the sports side of things, Medvedev has successfully entered the third round of Wimbledon. He will face Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff on Friday.
