The Saturday night fixture between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks saw fireworks go off at the dying stages of the game. A late scrum took place between Connor McDavid and Conor Garland with the former delivering a brutal cross-check on the latter. He has now been suspended for three games.
The Oilers found themselves 3-2 down and were trying to force the game into overtime with a late goal. After passing the puck forward, McDavid got tangled up with Garland and the two stars would hit the ground.
After battling on the ground, McDavid would get up. During this, he would deliver a vicious cross-check on Garland, leading to a brawl between the two sets of players.
The forward star was later handed a match penalty for his actions. This decision brought out divided opinions from the fans on social media as some questioned the officiating and supported McDavid for his hit on Garland.
The NHL Department of Player Safety (DoPS) on Monday announced that he has now been given a three-game suspension for this cross-check. Apart from that he will also forfeit $195,312.51 of his salary.

McDavid though is not the only player who has received suspension from this game. While a brawl broke out among the players following McDavid’s hit on Garland, a separate incident involving Evan Bouchard and Tyler Myers took a few feet away from there.
Myers, just like McDavid, would cross-check his opponent. He was also ejected from the game. On Monday, the NHL DoPS slapped him with a three-game suspension as well.

Check out some reactions from users on X below:
Time for McDavid to stop doing appearances for the NHL. How embarrassing for the NHL. He receives the most abuse in the NHL & there are 3 to 4 non-calls on him every game. Myers was completely unprovoked & gets the same. Completely joke. Officials need to start being accountable

Maybe if your refs did their fucking jobs mcdavid wouldn't have to do shit like this.

When do the refs get suspended for not making the right call. It was clearly a penalty but no call so it escalated! Refs have no repercussions?

This is now the second time McDavid has ever been suspended from the NHL. The Edmonton Oilers who are currently 29-14-3 so far this season, will now be without their inspirational captain for the games against the Washington Capitals, Vancouver Canucks, and the Buffalo Sabres.
