As preparations for the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off continue, the question regarding who will lead Team Canada in this tournament has been on the minds of everyone connected with hockey. Connor McDavid has now insisted that Sidney Crosby should be the one to wear the Captain’s “C”.

The 4 Nations Face-Off is an international tournament that will take place next year in February. This event will feature four teams, Canada, the United States, Finland, and Sweden with NHL stars representing their country.

While McDavid himself possesses the skills to lead a team, the Edmonton Oilers forward wants the Pittsburgh Penguins star to take this role. He even called this decision a “no-brainer“.

It should be Sid. It should be Sid for sure, that’s not even a question. It’s just how it should be. He’s Sidney Crosby and he’s been there so many times and he’s the guy. It’s not like I thought about it a lot, it’s just such a no-brainer.

After playing a huge part in the 2010 Olympics glory, Crosby captained Team Canada in the 2014 Olympics. He would lead the team to another Olympic gold medal. Apart from this, he was the captain of the team during the winning run in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, the veteran forward said it is a “great honor“. He also praised the skills of his compatriot as he prepares to face him on Friday night.

I appreciate that. I think that being a little more experienced he’s giving me that. He’s obviously a great leader and he’s done so much for the team here and for Canada as well. I think anytime you’re looked to wear a letter, whether it’s a ‘C’ or an ‘A’ and be a part of Team Canada, it’s a great honor regardless. But I appreciate that.

On Friday night, the Penguins will travel to Rogers Place to take on the Oilers. This will be the 14th meeting of McDavid and Crosby as rivals.

While the 37-year-old forward has seven points this season (one goal and six assists), McDavid has amazed eight points (three goals and five assists). This signals that despite his old age, Crosby can still compete with the best players at the highest level.
