Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid scripted another record on Thursday night. In the team’s 3-2 victory over the Nashville Predators, the team captain reached the 1,000-point mark.
The Rogers Place in Edmonton was bubbling up with expectations before the game even started. McDavid, sitting on 999 career points, needed one more to reach this historic landmark.
The historic moment came in the second period of the game when the Oilers found themselves 1-0 down. In a 4-on-4 situation, the Oilers would win the puck back and found Leon Draisaitl on the run. A neat pass from the German international set up McDavid.
He would not let this chance go to waste and fired a first-time shot past Predators goaltender Scott Wedgewood. The arena would erupt with joy as the puck found its way in the back of the goal.

Reacting to this later, McDavid labeled it a “special moment” for him. The Oilers captain also claimed that seeing his teammates and fans happy meant more to him.

McDavid joined the Oilers in 2015 as a first-round overall pick. Since then, he has been named as the NHL MVP three times and has collected the Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the top scorer of the league, five times (2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023).
These two points on Thursday see him take his 2024-25 season points tally to 19 (6 goals and 13 assists). The Oilers have now won three games in a row for the first time this season. They will look to extend his streak to four when they face another Canadian team in Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
