In a surprising turn of events, Seattle Seahawks center Connor Williams has announced his retirement. Williams played seven seasons in the NFL before hanging up his cleats.

On Friday, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald revealed the news. Macdonald stated “personal reasons” behind the sudden retirement of Conners and that it’s unlikely that he will change his mind.

We’re honoring his wishes and we’ll keep all those reasons and conversations private for obvious reasons and wish him the best.

Mike Macdonald told the press as per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Connor Williams started all nine games (4-5) for the Seahawks in 2024 after moving from the Miami Dolphins in the offseason. Last season he suffered an ACL injury, which ended his campaign early.

The Seahawks took a chance on Williams even though they knew his surgically repaired leg could cause problems down the line.

Jerry Jones originally drafted Williams at the Dallas Cowboys back in 2018 in the second round. He stuck around in Arlington for four seasons before moving down south. The Texas Longhorns product started 86 games of 92 in the NFL before retiring at the tender age of 27.

Who will replace Connor Williams at Seattle Seahawks?

It’s hard to find a suitable replacement for such a consistent player like Williams, but the Seahawks drafted a player just for such an occasion. According to Macdonald, they will elevate second-year center Olu Oluwatimi as the team’s primary center for the rest of the season.

He’s the guy who’s been knocking on the door for a while. Obviously it’s an unforeseen circumstance that you’ve got to take on head-on.

Oluwatimi played just one game in his rookie campaign, and now he will spearhead the Seahawks offensive line, protecting quarterback Geno Smith. If they hadn’t signed Connor, then perhaps Olu would have been the starter.

This guy’s been working really hard; he basically started at center for us the whole offseason.

Macdonald said.

The Seahawks are in a bind at the moment. After a 4-0 start to the season, they lost five straight and now sit bottom of the NFC West even though the Los Angeles Rams have the same number of wins/losses.

MacDonald’s team will face the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in their next game. The 49ers are heavy favorites to do the double over their divisional rivals after they secured a 36-24 victory in week six.
