Conor McGregor was knocked out for the first time in his professional MMA career, against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, which concluded in January. Conor was knocked out by a flurry of punches from Dustin in the second round, while also failing to keep the American’s calf kicks in check. Right after the match, Conor revealed that he would be back soon (humble in victory and humble in defeat!)
The Irishman was handed a 6-month medical suspension after his loss, and more recently he has taken to social media asking the UFC to book a fight, mentioning his lightweight championship ambition. It looks like the motivated version of Conor McGregor speaking!
Can Conor bounce back?
“The 155lb World Champion. Book it!“, he tweeted.
Conor is currently ranked number 6 in the lightweight rankings, and recently he also fell out from the top 15 of the pound-for-pound rankings. It might probably take a while before the UFC hand him a title shot, as Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira are lined up to fight on the 15th of May for the vacant lightweight championship.
Conor might probably have to beat at least one opponent from the lightweight top 5, to be the shot-caller. He is expected to take on Dustin Poirier once again in a rematch. Do you think Conor can bounce back after his knockout defeat, and claim the lightweight belt once again?
