It’s been four years since Conor McGregor’s brutal TKO leg break at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier, and he has yet to return to competition. This month, however, ‘The Notorious’ took a key step toward a potential UFC comeback. But before chasing gold in the Octagon again, the Irishman also seems focused on securing another kind of victory at the ballot box.

The former UFC double champ has floated the idea of running for the Irish presidency, even as discussions heat up about a blockbuster “America 250” White House PPV card next July 4th. The possibility of a globally broadcast fight at the White House has already lured several former fighters back into the spotlight.

McGregor, who had not submitted any tests under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy until earlier this year, has now officially re-entered the testing pool, signaling that his long-awaited return might finally be on track. That changed with McGregor seeping out ‘excellence’ in a cup and showing off docked shoulders after his drug pool testing on Instagram. After his dramatic exhibition, the Irishman’s claims were proven true, and he appeared on the UFC Anti-Doping database.

Without the use of PEDs or any performance enhancers, McGregor could be cleared by the DFSI to compete again within six months. Once eligible, he’s promising the greatest comeback in combat sports history, one that could culminate with a fight on the White House lawn. But McGregor has teased an even more ambitious twist: not just fighting at the President’s South Lawn, but walking it as the President of Ireland himself.

I pray I am in as Irelands President by the time of the fight in the White House. 🙏 How iconic it will be.
A leader that puts his money where his mouth is. I would be in term well over half a year by the time of this White House card. By that time we would have Ireland in to a new government, serving the Irish public as its number 1 priority. The Presidential term is 7 years. I’d have Ireland right inside 3….Ireland, I AM YOUR MAN! Vótáigh Conchúir Mac Gréagóir

McGregor has long wanted to reform the old guard, fire them, and place something that adheres to the problems of the working Irish class. To that end, he has wanted to do away with the Dáil Éireann (that is the House of Representatives of the Oireachtas/AKA Irish Parliament). The Dubliner even made stern accusations against many political figures in his nation on the Irish broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTE).

Amid Donald Trump’s renewed push for aggressive immigration enforcement through “expedited removal” operations, Conor McGregor appears to be taking notes. Once again, he’s floated the idea of running for Irish President, this time doubling down on a campaign focused on bringing back exported Irish talent and prioritizing native workers.

In a bold move, McGregor even visited the White House media wing to make a symbolic statement, standing alongside Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during the announcement earlier this year. McGregor once laid into the IPAS (International Protection Accommodation Services) center for housing non-Irish asylum seekers instead of local Irish beverage joints.

The fighter blamed the Irish president for failing his countrymen by diverting funds to immigrants. He has often announced his Large Scale Residential Development (LRD) blocks, taking over asylum spots. The former double champ has even devised a plan to opt out of the EU migration pact during his term. It will begin with his logging a ballot victory in the Irish presidential election. Given – he first secures an unlikely nomination at all, and that will wrap with a White House walk.

UFC Legend shares theory on why Conor McGregor remains popular even in 2025

Conor McGregor is a highly contentious figure and does whatever he desires to do. But run for the President of Ireland? That’s a big stretch! Tanaiste (deputy prime minister) Simon Harris told NYC Media that the fighter is fueled up on misinformation, and Ireland is not against imported foreign talents enriching their nation.

Irish Tabloids have dismissed McGregor and his West-ish GOP-aligned steps and talks as of any big import. Furthermore, there have been rumors of a UFC comeback next year. Stateside, he’s infamous for allegations of assault at the 2023 NBA finals in Miami. Moreover, the Dublin court levying him €248,000 in damages in the Nikita Hand case is now globally viral.

Additionally, there’s the weekly nose-blows, incited violence, PDAs, and unsolicited scandals that mar his reputation outside of fighting. The UFC is oversaturated with talent, but McGregor still boasts the five spots for the biggest PPV numbers. Chuck Liddell, whom the Irishman probably based his recent hairdo on, hypothesized that this is why his unfathomable stardom is hard to match. No other star is doing much, maybe except Ilia Topuria, to keep themselves in the conversation

There are guys who are doing just enough to win, not trying to commit to fighting…[Like] like McGregor has. I think [It’s] kind of going back to people realize that if you finish fights, you’ll be more famous — make more money, whatever motivates you, so that people kind of move back towards finishing fights; I don’t know if they [the UFC] necessarily need it…need [another McGregor]. But it’s one of those things that will happen as they come.

Due to their efforts of more than chasing a win or belt, the veteran thinks McGregor has made himself larger than life. Hence, on that stem, there haven’t been many who are even near to eclipsing him or those like Ronda Rousey, per Liddell.
