  • Recent footage shows McGregor sparring 6'5" fighter Eoin Sheridan, indicating preparation for a potential return.
  • UFC veteran Din Thomas believes McGregor's participation in the upcoming UFC White House event is contractually possible and significant.

Conor McGregor remains one of the most recognizable stars in the UFC, with his “Notorious” persona and sharp mic skills propelling his rise to global prominence. His success across divisions elevated both his profile and the promotion’s reach. In recent months, discussion has centered on his potential return after a prolonged absence, further fueled by footage of him sparring PFL welterweight Eoin Sheridan.

McGregor has been out of competition since suffering a leg break in his trilogy loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. He was later positioned to return at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler, marking what would have been his comeback bout. However, the contest was canceled after he sustained a major toe injury during camp. The setback sidelined him once more, and the return never materialized.

However, McGregor has remained vocal about targeting a return at the upcoming UFC White House event later this year. Recent footage shows him sparring 6-foot-5 Eoin Sheridan at full intensity, exchanging heavy strikes during live rounds. McGregor showcased his flashy striking with rapid combinations and varied attacks, further signaling preparation for a potential appearance on the June 14th card.

Sheridan is an Irish welterweight competing under the PFL banner, standing at 6’5 and holding an undefeated professional record in mixed martial arts. He has competed on the European regional circuit, securing victories through a mix of striking and grappling finishes. Sheridan has defeated the likes of Brice Belghazi and Malichi Edwards under the PFl banner and, most recently, Felipe Maia at AFC 1.

The training footage with Eoin Sheridan surfaced amid what is believed to be McGregor’s camp for the proposed UFC White House event. His longtime coach, John Kavanagh, has indicated that McGregor is fully focused on preparation for the card. Kavanagh has also expressed confidence that the former two-division champion is committed to delivering a peak performance

The recent sparring session offered a glimpse of the fluid movement and sharp timing that once defined Conor McGregor at his peak. In recent years, training clips drew scrutiny, with observers noting slower reactions and diminished sharpness. Concerns were also raised about his conditioning. By contrast, the workout with Eoin Sheridan suggests ‘The Notorious One’ could reemerge at the UFC White House event.

UFC veteran puts money on Conor McGregor’s return at UFC White House

Conor McGregor’s potential return at the proposed UFC White House event remains widely debated, as he has teased multiple comebacks that never materialized. His absence since 2021 has fueled uncertainty about his future. With the White House card positioned as a landmark event, participation would carry significant weight. A confirmed appearance would help maintain his status as a UFC superstar.

UFC veteran Din Thomas analyzed the situation, stating that McGregor still has two fights left on his UFC contract, making a White House appearance contractually possible. He emphasized the scale and historical significance of the proposed event as factors that could motivate the promotion to secure McGregor. Thomas also noted that the unique platform increases the incentive to finalize negotiations.

I don’t know what that looks like. I don’t know how that is. I’m sure Conor is not going to fight at lightweight. He’ll not fight at lightweight, but at a different weight class. What I’m saying is he’s still a career lightweight. In our eyes he’ll always be a lightweight because of what he’s done at lightweight. But, him fighting at the White House, if I had to put money on it, I’d say they make it happen.

Other veterans, such as Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, have cautioned against further delays, suggesting prolonged inactivity could impact Conor McGregor’s drawing power. Both have indicated that extended absences risk diminishing relevance in a rapidly evolving roster. In that context, Din Thomas’ analysis further underscores the Irishman’s pivotal role in the promotion’s marquee ambitions.
