For the greater part of the last few years, UFC superstar Conor McGregor has had a dwindling effect on the game. The Irishman is yet to see a combat sports return since his 2021 TKO leg break injury. Despite multiple teases, the fighter could not make it back home.
The Irishman was to make a genuine return at the IFW Festivities atop the UFC 303 PPV card last June, but couldn’t. Everything after has been on the chord of that failure. Conor McGregor even tried inserting himself into the UFC 314 equation a while back but failed. Now, ‘Notorious’ has dropped new training footage on his socials (🎥: @TheNotoriousMMA) that does not make matters any easier.

McGregor is visible in the footage; the SBG Ireland team top crop is throwing kicks and hands at a shielded sparring opponent, cage side. However, the speed, intensity, and his tucking in knees are nowhere near what they used to be.
McGregor’s striking made him a European-style striker and sensation like no other. Lately, only Ilia Topuria had gotten to that level. 2024 Season breakout star, Mauricio Ruffy, and his ‘one punch’ style often earns him the ‘Brazilian Conor McGregor’ label these days.
Meanwhile, the Irish fighter himself is in a deeper abyss that’s starting to look like a point of no return. McGregor has teased with training snippets before as well. Sometimes, it involves congregating old footage and stitching it together. On some counts, they were exciting; on others, not so much. The latest one has gotten many responses from UFC fans, but on the stem of dejection.
Fight Fans React To Conor McGregor
Three years and multiple promises later, UFC litigation has found no reason to rehash McGregor’s contract or book a fight despite only two fights remaining. The intermediate time has not helped him hone his rep any better. The guilty assault verdict resulted in him having to pay €248,000 in damages (£206,000 /$260,000 all-in) for a 2018 assault. The Irish Parliament even labeled him as a misogynist.

Major Irish brands have dropped Conor McGregor as their go-to media face, while he himself has been on a more staunch political hardline. Other than those, wild partying/nose-blows and BKFC promoter duties, it has all been stale. Nothing has suggested that the ‘Notorious’ would be making a glorious return anytime soon.
His training snippets definitely do not capture the attention they once used to or have left fans clamoring for the old McGregor. Hence, here are a few hot responses to his new footage:
Yeah, he is cooked. No more fighting.

I would put his lights out

He won’t fight anybody we care about. And if he did he would lose
— Cozy Bryant (@LowkeyCozy) May 10, 2025
Training? You mean him playing paddy cakes with a fella in a furry costume?
— UAP Reporting Center (@UAPReportingCnt) May 10, 2025
Not sure why he would post that exhibition. Looks like a retired fighter to me

Safe to say, the combat clique and their reactions were not kind to the UFC star. McGregor and his ‘titanium shinbone’ footage used to elicit excitement about his return. Now – not so much anymore. A prime response (@Malcolm_fleX48) even taunted: “Yeah, he is cooked. No more fighting.“
McGregor’s political bid has also come with fighting updates that spell doom and gloom, wiping out any chances he would have at it. UFC brass has not presented any concrete reason to bring back the fighter. Even prime UFC/MMA notables and analysts have taken a swipe at his lack of fighting. Where McGregor’s legacy goes and rests from here on out is anybody’s guess.
