Jaylen Brown pushed PJ Washington in the closing minutes

A foul not getting called during an extremely close game is certainly one of the worst circumstances a team can face in a finals matchup. Questions were raised during Game 2 of the NBA finals as there was a no call on Jaylen Brown which had the potential to change the trajectory of the game.

The Boston Celtics were able to secure their lead but the Dallas Mavericks caught up fast in the last minutes of the game. It was a five-point game with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. That’s when Derrick Jones Jr. blocked Jayson Tatum and PJ Washington stole the possession. As Washington was reaching the rim, Jaylen Brown pushed the Mavericks forward.

The contact by Brown went unnoticed and Derrick White blocked Washington’s running dunk. The play by Washington had the chance to cut down the lead at three points and possibly win the game. But as there was no call, the Celtics took advantage and won the game.

Fans were upset by the officials’ no-call on Jaylen Brown

After losing the first game, there was a lot on the line for the Mavericks. After a hard-fought game, everything came down to that one play by Washington. During the moment, White’s clutch block grabbed the attention, and Brown’s foul was neglected. Hence, considering it was the finals, viewers were furious at the officiating.

During the replay, even the veteran announcer, Mike Breen stated that a foul should have been called on Brown. Netizens quickly took to social media to report the poor officiating decision. Here’s what fans from X had to say.

The loss certainly has serious consequences as the Mavericks are 0-2 before they head home. The team has to get consistent wins in order to get back in the competition. It will be interesting to see if the league acknowledges the no-call and reacts to the accusations made by fans.
