Imane Khelif went through it all. After the International Boxing Association disqualified her last year, she came back to compete in the Paris Olympics, where she was subjected to an unreal amount of hate. Many questioned her gender, including two of the most notable figures in the world, Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling. Now, after winning gold, she is set to take the fight to her haters.

Variety ran an exclusive story reporting that the Algerian boxer has filed a lawsuit against ‘acts of aggravated cyber harassment’ she faced during the Paris Olympics. The lawsuit filed with the French authorities against X (formerly Twitter) mentions both Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling. The pair had put out many social media posts after Italy’s Angela Carini quit her Round of 16 bout against Khelif in 46 seconds.

Since then, users of X (formerly Twitter) have harassed Khelif online. Under French law, the lawsuit allows authorities to take action against any user, whether they are real accounts or ones created under pseudonyms.

Musk and Rowling’s names appear in the lawsuit documents. But that will not stop the likes of former US President Donald Trump from being prosecuted. While his name has not been mentioned, he will come under scrutiny as he spoke against her after her win.

Imane Khelif achieved glory despite all the hate

Most people generally concede defeat when subjected to a smidge of hatred or trolling. Athletes and celebrities fare a lot better. But what Imane Khelif faced was beyond imagination.

However, Khelif fought through all that hate and ended up clinching the gold medal. She registered three dominant wins back-to-back — against Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori in the quarterfinals, Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng in the semifinals, and China’s World Champion Yang Liu in the final — to emerge victorious in the welterweight category.

With that win, not only did she bring honor and respect to her country, but also made her family proud. This, after her family had to show her birth certificate to the media to try and bring an end to the abuse she has been facing online.
