“Wonder why ratings have dipped” – Controversial referee decision decides WILD Mavs vs Suns game sending fans into meltdown
The Dallas Mavericks vs Phoenix Suns matchup ended in a controversial fashion due to the involvement of the referee.
Luka Doncic and Kevin Durant
The Dallas Mavericks played the visiting Phoenix Suns on Friday night to wrap up the five-game homestand. Friday night’s game against the Suns was just another example of the Mavericks showcasing their brand of “beautiful basketball” to their opponents. The Suns had a 7-1 record going into the American Airlines Center, and the Mavericks had a 5-3 record.
However, things did not go the Mavs’ way as the Suns saw out a narrow win against the Mavs with 0.8 seconds remaining on the clock. This was because Jusuf Nurkic was given a free throw call by the NBA referee, Tony Brothers, with 0.8 seconds remaining in the game. At that time, the match was tied at 113-113. This led to furious takes by NBA fans around the world.
One fan slammed the controversial referee for their absurd call. Check out the tweet below:
league saw the best game of the year with insane back and fourth shot making by two of the greatest to ever do it and decided to stripe the fans of overtime and ended the game on a “foul” drawn by jusuf nurkic

Fans left furious with the referee deciding Mavs vs Suns matchup
The Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns game was plenty of action from beginning to end. The Mavericks wanted to slow down the Suns and Kevin Durant. Almost every opponent of the Suns is foiled by Durant’s extraordinary skills. However, this time around, it was the NBA referee, Tony Brothers, who stole the show during their matchup.
Towards the last play of the game, Brothers gave a controversial free-throw call that changed the game in favor of the Suns. With this call, the Suns came out victorious. This led to many fans taking to various social media apps to put forward their views and opinions on this matter. One fan wrote on X, “NBA letting Tony Brothers decide the game is pathetic.” Check out some of the reactions below:
