The Los Angeles Rams ended their 2024-25 season with a Divisional round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Since that loss, the most important question surrounding the franchise has been about their veteran stars Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp.
Stafford was initially non-committal about it, but eventually came around and confirmed that he will continue with the franchise next season. However, his contract is something they need to discuss, and their representatives might already be at work.
His favorite receiver though, may not be that lucky. Cooper Kupp still has two years left on his contract. He has helped the team with restructures in the past, but in 2025, they will have to absorb a colossal near $30 million cap hit. To avoid that, they have now started fielding trade calls as the wideout revealed on X.
I was informed that the team will be seeking a trade immediately and will be working with me and my family to find the right place to continue competing for championships. I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA.

Kupp clearly wanted his career to end with the Rams and thanked Los Angeles for his time. However, the franchise has just $38 million in cap space to play with. At a time when they need fortify their team to fight for a Super Bowl, they need all the financial freedom needed to bring in free agents.
Puka Nacua reacts to Cooper Kupp trade news
Cooper Kupp finding himself on the trade block will surprise many. In a league where top wideouts are bonafide divas and their attitude towards their teams usually becomes the talk of the town, the 31-year-old has been a model professional. That led teammate Puka Nacua to write this on X.
He was referencing to the blockbuster trades that have taken place in the NBA over the past few days. Those trades showed that no one was safe, which in this case is his veteran teammate who could end up being forced to leave.
So I thought it was just the NBA trade season

Puka Nacua is surprised as despite missing five games, Cooper Kupp still racked up over 700 yards. In the NFL, a player producing just that much does not get nearly $30 million a year. That is what is forcing the Los Angeles Rams to make this move.
