Cooper Kupp posts emotional farewell message as ex-Super Bowl MVP hits free agency for the first time following Rams release
After months of speculation and failing to find a trade partner, the Los Angeles Rams decided to release WR Cooper Kupp, ending an eight year stay with the franchise even before it moved to LA from St. Louis.

Cooper Kupp is finally leaving the Los Angeles Rams after they released him on Tuesday. The veteran wide receiver is set to hit free agency for the first time in his NFL career. Several teams that showed interest but weren’t ready to give up something in return to the Rams are back in the frame.
Earlier this year, the Rams shocked the NFL world by announcing their plans to release the 31-year-old wideout if he failed to find a trade partner before the deadline—March 12, at 4 pm EST. There is a market for Kupp; however, not a single team came forward with a trade proposal, and the Rams had no other option but to release him as they already signed Davante Adams as a direct replacement.
Kupp posted a video of his journey with the Rams, signaling the end of an era for the Los Angeles team.
Eight years of incredible memories. We talked often about the Rams being back in LA and how we would grow to be something special here… Thank you for these shared moments. Thank you, LA, for welcoming my family with open arms and allowing us to grow here. Next chapter starts now. Best is yet to come.

We talked often about the Rams being back in LA and how we would grow to be something special here. And there was frustration early on around getting the buy in from the people of LA.

The Pro Bowl also attached a video containing a carousel of photos documenting his Rams career. He was among the last players on the team from the Rams’ St. Louis days before moving to California.
Kupp always wanted to finish out his career with the Rams. He was a former third-round pick out of Eastern Washington in 2017. With Matthew Stafford as his quarterback, he won the Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP in 2021.
After Stafford restructured his contract to stay in LA, many believed Kupp might hang around for another year, but he is now a free agent.
Cooper Kupp’s wife reacted to her husband’s release
In the aftermath of her husband’s release from the Rams, Anna Kupp shared her thoughts on social media. She posted Kupp’s farewell video on her Instagram account and wrote a supportive message.

Anna Kupp talked about Cooper’s journey with the Rams and how far he has come.
Wherever we go, wherever we land, is going to be so [f***ing] lucky to have you in their building. You have the ability to turn the tides of any organization you step foot into. The man that you are, the leader that you embody, the brother on and off the field. The standard you hold yourself to and bring others along in your pursuits. People want to be better because of who you are and how you conduct your business.

The joy and passion you exude in your preparation and your execution is contagious. I am so excited for the impact you will have in these coming years. The relationships waiting for you. And for you to continue to tear apart opponents… To the moon my king.

New England Patriots put on high alert after Rams released Cooper Kupp
The Patriots are among the leading pack of teams for Kupp’s new home. Despite adding a slew of players on the first two days of free agency—ED Harold Landry, LB Robert Spillane, CB Carlton Davis, and OT Morgan Moses—dealing out over $160 million in guaranteed money, they still don’t have a playmaker on the team and hold $100 million in cap space.
Kupp hitting free agency means they can now aggressively target him without having the headache of losing any draft picks.
According to Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan, Kupp has shown interest in joining the Patriots as their main playmaker.
According to a league source, Kupp is curious about the prospect of playing in New England and has shared that curiosity with some close to him. Kupp has personal and professional connections to the Patriots, starting with ex-college teammate and fellow wideout Kendrick Bourne, who has repeatedly advocated for Kupp to come to New England on social media.
Andrew Callahan wrote in a recent article
Kupp isn’t the same receiver as when he won the Super Bowl, contributing a league-best 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. Constant ankle and knee problems have taken a toll on the Washington native. In 2024, he recorded 67 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns.
