Naomi Osaka‘s boyfriend Cordae reacted to pictures of the Japanese tennis star from her recent trip to New York before starting her training for the Paris Olympics, scheduled to start on July 27.
“72 hours in NY, whatchu doing?” Osaka wrote in the caption. Cordae loved those pictures, especially the ones where she wore a hat as he simply wrote “Hat” with eight fire emojis, suggesting the hat looked awesome on his girlfriend.
Cordae and Osaka have been together since 2019 and in July 2023, their daughter Shai was born, after which Osaka took a maternity leave. The American rapper also frequently comes to watch her matches and was recently seen in her box when she gave a tough competition to Iga Swiatek (who later won the title) in the second round of the French Open.
Osaka’s recent match was the Wimbledon second round against America’s Emma Navarro. The four-time Grand Slam champion, after a three-set win over Frenchwoman Diane Parry in the first set, lost to Navarro, who was 19th seed, in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
Naomi Osaka wishes to win a medal in the Olympics
After enjoying her time in New York, Naomi Osaka arrived in Paris for the Olympics. Osaka has played in the Tokyo Olympics but had a disappointing campaign as she could reach just the third round in singles.
As mentioned before, Osaka’s last match was on the grass court of Wimbledon and since then she has not played in any clay-court event which would have helped her adapt to the surface. Several players have discussed the difficulty of playing on different surfaces and pulled themselves out of the Olympics.
But Osaka confirmed in June about her participation and also shared a picture of the Eiffel Tower on her Instagram story after arriving in Paris. During a press conference in April this year, the 26-year-old talked about representing Japan at the quadrennial event.
Growing up watching the Olympics on TV, I felt that it was a celebration of sports. I thought it brought everyone together and just to be able to be an athlete there and interact with other athletes is one of the fun things that I've ever done. I have high ambitions for myself and I hope that I can do really well and get a medal.Naomi Osaka said
Osaka last won a Grand Slam in 2021. Her back-to-back victories in the 2018 US Open and 2019 Australian Open made her the first woman since Serena Williams in 2015 to claim successive major titles.
