The Madrid Open first-round match between Corentin Moutet and Shang Juncheng witnessed a great drama that elicited quite a lot of reactions on social media. Both players put on a show to end the night on high, but in the end, only one managed to win.
The first set went to a tie-break. A seven-point tie-break went up to 11 points before Moutet managed to steal a point from his opponent and the first set as well.
However, Juncheng was determined to come back and quickly took a couple of break points to win the second set and force the match into a decider set.
The third set was the best set of the match, as both players did not give an inch. The match approached closer to that four-hour mark, and they had to fight it out in the tie-break. The stage could not get more intense, as the players were tied in the tiebreak yet again.
Amidst the intense situation, Moutet’s racket slipped while serving, resulting in him not having a racket and losing the point at an important stage. Fans immediately slammed the Frenchman, thinking that he did it to intimidate his opponent.
Though the racket slam was by-mistake, fans speculate that it was intentional.
