The Edmonton Oilers are heading towards another Stanley Cup Final. The Western Conference champions successfully defended this crown and set up a rematch with the Florida Panthers. Following the game, defenseman Corey Perry sang high praises for his captain, Connor McDavid.

The Oilers’ No.97 has been one of the best players in the league. After finishing the regular season with a staggering 143 points (43 goals and 100 assists), McDavid continued to shine in the postseason.

Following a 6-3 loss in Game 1, McDavid and his crew stepped up. The Oilers won 4 games on the bounce after that with their captain 7 points in this 4-game winning stretch.

In the post-game interview, veteran player Corey Perry spoke highly of McDavid. The player labeled the Canadian international as the “best player” in the world.

He’s the best player in the world.

The Oilers started the game strongly with Perry scoring a power-play goal inside the opening 3 minutes with McDavid and his forward partner, Leon Draisaitl getting the assist for this. The team soon found themselves 3-0 up. The Stars did show some fight back and pulled back 2 goals to make it 3-2.

McDavid then stepped up and restored a two-goal lead in the second period. Eventually, the Oilers ran out as 6-3 winners and booked their place in another final.

With his assist to Perry, the 3-time NHL MVP became the second fastest player in the league to reach 100 assists in the playoffs. It took him 90 games to reach this milestone. The fastest player to reach the three-figure mark for assists in the playoffs is Wayne Gretzky.

Connor McDavid gives hilarious reason for touching Clarence S. Campbell Bowl trophy

In the NHL, there have been some huge superstitions in the past few years. One of them is touching or not touching a particular trophy. After winning the Western Conference again, Connor McDavid immediately touched the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl trophy. He would then give a hilarious reason for this.

After eliminating the Dallas Stars in six games, the Edmonton Oilers decided not to touch the trophy. They would simply pose with the silverware while lining up for the photo. They ended up losing in Game 7 against the Florida Panthers in the finals.

This year, the Oilers did not waste any time and touched the trophy for good luck. In the press conference after the game, a reporter would bring up this and ask why he immediately touched the trophy.

Pretty obvious I think. Don’t touch it last year, we don’t win. Touch it this year, hopefully we win.

The Panthers, on the other hand, did not touch the Prince of Wales trophy again this year. After they touched it in 2023, they lost to the Vegas Golden Knights. After they decided not to do that last year, they emerged victorious against the Oilers.
