“Classic Jerry overpay” – Cowboys acquiring Jonathan Mingo from Panthers has fans BAFFLED
Fans didn't like the Cowboys' decision to acquire wide receiver Jonathan Mingo in a trade deal with the Panthers amid a 3-5 season record.

Looks like the name of the wide receiver which Jerry Jones discussed during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan has finally been revealed. With the ticking clock on the NFL Trade deadline over their head, the Dallas Cowboys have made their move by signing a deal with the Carolina Panthers.
NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported via sources that the Cowboys have acquired wide receiver Jonathan Mingo in a trade deal with the Panthers. They have exchanged a 2025 fourth-round and a seventh-round pick for Mingo.
Despite being drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the second-year wide receiver only started five games this season, recording merely 12 passes for 121 yards. Last season, he only posted 43 passes out of 85 targets for 418 yards even after starting 14 out of the 15 games.
Although Mingo is yet to record a touchdown, the Cowboys signed him through the 2026 season after being impressed by his pre-draft process in 2023 but didn’t get the chance to sign him back then.
“We’re not selling. We will make that case. We’re buying, not selling,” said Jones on why the Cowboys acquired a wide receiver.

Although this trade deal isn’t an ideal one, it does provide added depth at a crucial position for two more seasons and the future if things work out well. Since wide receiver CeeDee Lamb sprained an AC joint in his right shoulder, the Cowboys needed to make a move for the receiving squad.
Fans react to Cowboys acquiring Jonathan Mingo
While Lamb is expected to return next week against the Philadelphia Eagles, star quarterback Dak Prescott has been placed on the injury reserve after sustaining a hamstring injury during Sunday’s loss against the Atlanta Falcons. Amid the disappointing season, Prescott was said to be Cowboys’ only hope and with his injury, the fans expected Jones to make at least a reasonable move ahead of the trade deadline.
But the second-year-old wide receiver’s addition to Dallas has absolutely disappointed fans. One fan wrote taunting the 82-year-old, “Classic Jerry overpay,” while another asserted, “They put Dak on IR, can’t play defense and their solution is to ADD a young WR?” Here are some of the fan reactions.

In his time at Ole Miss, Mingo posted 1,758 yards with 112 passes and 12 touchdowns in 41 games he played in four years. He enhanced his draft prospect to the second round by putting together an impressive workout for the NFL Scouting Combine.
